And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

Worker bees will supersede the queen if she gets too old or inferior in some way. They will raise a new queen and then kill the old one. Also, all worker bees are females.

Male bees are called drones, and they only exist for mating. Every day of a drone's life is to exit the hive, go to an area and wait for a virgin queen to fly by, then fly as fast as it can to bang the virgin queen, only to die if lucky enough to succeed. Or if they never succeed, the workers will eventually kick drones out of the hive to die once resources become scarce.

Kind of like the OT

Well, so much for that one.

But yeah they are fascinating. I have a few hives and can just sit and watch the entrance. Bees just coming and going; the ones leaving dart dart off with some speed (don't get in their way), and the ones returning home are slower since they're usually carrying cargo. Then the guard bees at the entrance check each arrival to make sure they actually belong to the hive.

A girl is like a blossom, with honey for just one man.
A man is like a honey bee and gather all he can.
To fly from blossom to blossom a honey bee must be free.
But blossom must never fly from bee to bee to bee.

See, now I’m imagining some bee trying to sneak in wearing one of these

Or three doodlebugs on top of each other in a bee colored trench coat.
It’s funny to kind of anthropomorphize them and put them in these silly situations in my head, even though I know they don’t even think, I think.

You refer to the bee as a male, but the bees to which you’re referring (i.e., those that make honey) are females.

Yeah, I know that now, but when I started writing I didn’t do any real research. It was based on a 3 minute HIM clip. I was struggling with my own existence and it was more focused on the IDEA of a bee.

How they don’t have to deal with all these issues, they just…bee. In the piece, the bee is me kind of. I didn’t know where I was going when I started it, I just knew I couldn’t get the bees out of my head.

And I think it’s a bit of a journey, you go from a sort of heavy despair, how a bee doesn’t have to worry about the problems a man has. It just has to exist and do what it’s made to do.
But then you get a little deeper and the weight was starting to lift, and you see where no, a bee doesn’t know despair, but can’t know love either.

I think it’s about feeling like it would be easier to put it on autopilot sometimes. But even that wouldn’t fulfill us. No more than would being a man fulfill a bee.

It’s just mental rambling really but by the time I came to the end that feeling of pointlessness was gone. The weight was lifted.

and then i immediately started working on another piece. I’m a strange bird.

I liked that movie where the killer bees attacked a car and the driver almost died until it was driven inside the superDome and died.
