I understand giving you money for groceries eaten around the house but why would y’all pay for eating out? How does that play out during check presentation time?

I’ve never paid for someone dining out when I didn’t want to and can’t understand getting in that situation.

As a woman, I would never do that to my daughter and her husband. That’s rude and inconsiderate that they expect you to feed them.

As a woman

What an odd way to put that. Almost seems like you're trying to convince someone that you're a woman.

Weird.

brother in law is cheapest guy I know....CPA and fits the stereotype. I've seen him shut down mid vacation because they spent their "allocation". Refused to let his family go out to eat with us the last 2 nights at a restaurant.

That seems over the top. But this:

chewed his sons (my nephew's) arse yesterday for buying a Dr. Pepper at the gas station yesterday. He gets the spending notifications from the CC on his phone.....

...could be reasonable. Let's say they told the kid to only use the gas card for gas and not go in and buy stuff with it. With something like that, I get it. Also, no matter what kind of money they make, it's not a bad idea to teach their kids fiscal responsibility, because kids don't have it and think that money grows on trees. I talk to my 19 year old stepdaughter all the time about trying to save and not spending her paychecks on ChickFilA and Starbucks.

that's sad, used a friend's condo in FL for my daughter's(no pics,) birthday last summer, there were about 10 of us there, I did all the cooking/grocery shopping, which was my plan and I always do it and enjoy doing it, the night of her actual birthday it was a pretty huge feast and we'd been sort of eating/snacking all day so there were quite a bit of leftovers, one of the couples were leaving the next day and the wife starts going through the fridge and loading up the cooler with almost everything, I couldn't care less about petty shite like that but my wife(no pics,) asks her wtf is she doing and the broad says she's just helping clean out the fridge so nothing goes to waste, wife says we're not leaving for another 2-3 days and the broad offers to pay her for the leftovers

Sounds like it is THE issue.

You already said your not poor, so what's the big deal? If I am hosting people at my house I'm not going to ask them to pay anything. To me it is assumed that the host is covering it, or you wouldn't have invited them. Now if they want to get you a bottle of wine or pick up a check during their stay that's fine, but I wouldn't expect any guest of mine to have to pay for anything.

I was just about to say this exact thing... Except I didn't know any of it. Good work.

When my parents are around, neither me or my siblings, ever have to pay for anything. They hate for us to spend money on them

Yeah same. Both my parents and the in-laws do very well for themselves so they pay 90% of the time. I will pick one up every now and then.

My wife's parents are the same. Always pick up the checks, etc. I figured that's how most parents were until reading the OT

Not a relative but family friend.

Was eating at a local tex mex joint. Someone had leftover fajitas, and said they didnt want a box. This guy (not related to fajita woman) who is a CRNA grabs the skillet, proceeds to make 4 individual fajita burritos and wraps each one up in foil. Proudly claims he just made his lunch for the next 2 days

My grandfather had a drawer full of unopened shirts he'd received as gifts that he had never worn because he was "saving" them.

My mom is on disability and my dad owns a small business. They probably bring in $20K a year. Mom is constantly trying to give me, or my kids money when we come visit(live about an hour away). I take it but always put it back in her purse before I leave. If I tell her no, she gets upset.

Funny how the ones that don't have any money are the ones willing to help.
