One of the more insidious things about this period of time (from 0-2 years old) is kids having chronic ear conditions and the doc only treating the ear infections when they have fever. I’ve known several children that were unknowingly hearing impaired and subsequently did not develop cognitively. One is noticeable and the other 2 have below average intelligence

In short, you gotta be certain your child’s hearing is good. If they only hear mumbles then they are going to be behind.

Our toddler had all kinds of stuff happen when she was little. Her peds doc said that after a while she will get her immunity built up and will seldom be ill.

Turned out to be true.

Is this the first time your child is exposed to lots of other kids? Did he/she attend day care or did they stay home with mom or a sitter?

Pre schools have been germ factories forever. My son is now 43 years old and he went through new illnesses on a regular basis for a while when first enrolled in pre-school.

Like already mentioned----building up the immune system.

Unlike this COVID crap where it's said you need to be hermetically sealed and vaccinated------well, according to the so-called experts anyway.

Kid never got sick before. Started preschool in September and literally every single week it’s something new.

Croup one week
Hand foot and mouth
Some other virus I already forgot
Ear infection
Now she’s leaking snot like a spigot and coughing

had this same experience. lasted like 9mo-year of pure misery.

Let me guess. Was rarely around other kids until the age of 4 when they started preschool. Didn’t go to daycare.

Once they run through the 4 years of tolerance the other pre schoolers have to daily bacteria and viruses it will go away.

SSjr turned 1yo today and he is batting his first sickness ever. Has a cold with a runny nose. I feel so sorry for the poor little guy trying to go to sleep trying to breath out of his nose

I’m going to have to toughen up

I despise this stuff. Both my boys have scars on their stomachs from this. Nothing intense but we fought that stuff for a couple years.

My son had it on his leg..

It broke my heart when the pediatrician had to put that strong arse "wart remover" on it and he cried like hell.

It did the job though...

Went through the same things a few years ago. It gets better. Hand foot and mouth once. Strep throat about 6 times in one year. During the big covid scare they were all wearing masks and I don't remember him getting sick but once in about 7 months or so. Masks off and he started back with runny noses and coughing about once a month or every 6 weeks.

The little bastard that was bringing Strep to school never came back after Covid so he is getting kids at another school sick now.

Wait till they start bringing stuff home like the stomach virus and you start catching it. That starts around kindergarten.

It is your life until your kids are out of school. Get used to it.

Happens to all of them. Apparently i missed roseola as a child so i got it after my kid was in daycare. Croup, pneumonia, chickenpox (even though vaccinated.) He got it all.

Almost 3 but yeah. She was around some kids but not all that often. Just at the playground, church, toddler gym, etc.

Also, if you happen to catch one of these “childhood illnesses” for the first time as an adult, it’s bad. Roseola for my son wasn’t bad since he was 1. For me at 23, it sucked. Fever over 104, thought i was going to die. My uncle got chickenpox as an adult (from us kids), and had to drop out of college. Never finished and always sort of blamed us.

Everyone….kids are little germ factories. Unfortunately, they generally infect everyone in their household with every illness they catch, too.
