NASA is making a huge deal out of this “Artemis” mission that will put another man on the moon in 2024. If we supposedly have already landed on the moon multiple times in the span of 1969-1972 you would think this is old hat.

Very interesting to me we supposedly have already landed multiple times but 40 years of technological innovation later and we are making a big deal of still landing on the moon.

It's still an impressive feat. It's still a big deal.

1. NASA is being pushed by international space agencies and privatization.

2. A Moon base is roundly seen as the first step to the more popular and bigger goal of going to Mars.

It's a practice run for Mars. The missions need to be a lot different than they were 50 years ago. Settling for landing and leaving won't cut it.

Our country needs something like this too.

We need a morale boost.

Scruffy is also of the belief that NASA and space exploration should receive more funding than social welfare.

Because its still an impressive feat. Plus there are a frick ton of people around now that werent alive to witness the first one so THIS one will be the first for many.

This is also going to be a practice run for Mars in some aspects id imagine.

Not that hard to grasp

Landing on the moon is not the real achievement, returning them safely to the surface of the Earth is the real accomplishment.

You need a moon base to make it to Mars.

You basically send a bunch of stuff to the moon base via multiple trips then launch from the moon to Mars.

The escape velocity is much lower and you get pack a lot more shite leaving the moon than Earth.

We need to get more moon rocks. Specifically those that contain glass nodules/beads to better determine when our Sun will Nova again.

We never should have stopped. Landing on the moon was a hugely prestigious accomplishment for our nation. But sooner or later, China will start making that trip. The US should always be the one dominating the space race, because leaving our planet to colonize others is the next big step for our species. We should have had the beginnings of a lunar colony by the 90s. Going to Mars is much easier if the trip starts at the Moon. Not having to break the Earth's gravity means more money, design details, and effort could be placed on the long range living aspects of the craft.
