really wish we were. When COVID happened we started doing a scaled down Thanksgiving and was really nice... you could actually talk and interact more, I also started frying the turkey...but now this year my wife's family is back to cramming everyone into the tiny one room...and per tradition uncle will be making his bland shitty turkey that he doesn’t season apart from a salt brine. I'm also kinda irritated cause it's my young sons first Thanksgiving he can eat...so woulda been cool if I coulda cooked for him... but no...overstimulation will be fun for him too.. memories

I love both of our families, so it’s not necessarily that. Big family gatherings, especially when cooking is being done, is just overwhelming. I’m always exhausted when we get home.

This is why we leave. Our family on both sides is great, but I don't want to spend the whole day working on cooking and the whole next day cleaning.

This is how I feel and get drug for it most of the time, but it's true. usually big gathering don't lead to any actual quality time...just overstimulation and exhaustion...but we gotta do it for some reason.

You know you can do all that while spending time with the family?

You can’t go to Biloxi alone while spending time with family.

Yes, we're going to tell the tale of the Pilgrims and the first thanksgiving as if we're proud of it.

Sounds like the common denominator of your misery is you, beb. Take a step back and recalibrate. Get off your phone and engage with people.

of the people there I'm prob on my phone the least. If you'll actually read the post you'll see I enjoyed the smaller thanksgiving because I was actually able to interact more. It's a pretty small kitchen/living room open thing that they cram 20 people into..as a matter of fact the table is too small for everyone so some people have to get relegated to eating off their laps in the couch. It's impossible to carry on more than a small talk convo...but ok...I'm a miserable frick cause I want to create more personal memories with my boy.

Were doing the same this year. All the fam in three states away, and we have a 2 year old that makes traveling pretty demanding, plus we are all getting together for christmas in 30 days and kiddos birthday is in january. Since she is the only grandchild everyone flies out for her birthday anyway. It costs less in dollars, sweat equity and mental stability to just eat out on thanksgiving this year. Indian food might be a stretch that day though.

Positive vibes your way. I’m sure you’ll snag a good one. Sounds like you had a couple of invites from this thread, nonetheless.

At my house, I make Chex-Mix and "leftovers" portioned out in tins to give a way.

My Momma used to make that. It’s a great gift.

She made it using a lot of nuts. ( Pecans, cashews, Brazil nuts, good old Georgia peanuts, and some Spanish peanuts. ). Plus the Cheerios and Chex cereals. Lots of garlic, real butter, etc.

Have you ever put some of that stuff on your boudin, hog head cheese and Leidenheimer French Bread ?

Bonus points if you have good pork gravy.

A fat cook from Opelousas told me yeas ago that pork had the best flavor.

Went by Paul or something.

I got kicked out of the Saints vs Cowboys game many years ago and then went to Texas de Brazil with friends for Thanksgiving. It was a solid and memorable Thanksgiving.

Or I was just the right amount of drunk.

Yes, after my neighbors dogs ate our thanksgiving turkey we ended up going to a Chinese restaurant and we had fun with the waitstaff singing fah-rah-rah-rah—rah-rah-rah-rah-rah…

Yeah, well you probably weren't expecting a big Christmas bonus and instead getting shafted with a subscription to the Jelly of the Month club

We went to Crawfish Town in Henderson for their Easter Buffet. You have to purchase tickets ahead of time and they don’t allow walk ins that day. I think they do two shifts so it was not over crowded and were not rushed to leave.

It was absolutely great. Plenty of food, good service and zero mess to clean up. Family got to visit

Doing the same for Thanksgiving.

We cook, but we rotate traditional meals with BBQ, Seafood, Chicken fry and wild game.

When I was single I loved spending the day alone, cook, eat what I wanted. Especially when I had Friday off to spend with family.

My favorite Thanksgiving was when my now wife, me, and my younger brothers ate at Ryan's steakhouse because our mom and her new husband went on vacation. It was fun as hell.
