Never thought I’d see the day when people look down on American muscle cars that are pushing well over 400 hp. You voted for Hillary and drive a Prius - am I right?

A Z. So far as the chassis, the ride's fine, but the interior isn't comfortable, to me. Of course, that's not why you buy one.

No doubt there are pros for owning a Porsche, like you said resale and build quality are top notch, imo you eat too much performance in order to get that.

A C7 Stingray is ahead of the Boxster S in virtually every performance category, by a very wide margin.

Every margin except those in reality...

I understand what you say. First, just test drive the two, seriously. If you feel the Chevy performs better, the nod goes to the Chevy for sure. But the numbers we read, at least in my experience, just don't happen with certain cars. I've owned both a Corvette and Porsche recently and this is my personal driving experience, without going into finer details. The Porsche did not feel like a car in the sense I was used to. It was simply all the perfection you'd expect from a million dollar supercar.... ..the transmission alone on the Corvette is so primitive and clumsy in comparison, I never got to enjoy the money spent on the supposed state of the art, cutting edge engineering and technology like I could with the Porsche. The Corvette did hold on the turns at the same high speeds as the Porsche but I felt a bit of terror and a real sense of struggle to hold on... where as the Porsche took those same loops in a way that felt I could be relaxed in my recliner and imagined just steering with my knees or one finger. I'm dead serious, I put the Porsche through the same routines I did with the vette on a daily basis...just one of dozens was exiting I-10 and accelerating onto the cloverleaf at Airline, I would literally laugh out loud at how blown away I was by the glaring difference in the Porsche's ability to slingshot around that loop as effortlessly as pulling into parking at Albertsons...the Vette at same speeds was somewhat thrilling, but only because it felt like a wrestling match to hold on for dear life. You just cannot compare what the two perform like in real life using specs...no matter how much "better" they look. Just go drive them....

Until you drive each for a serious test run, those numbers we read are meaningless if assuming they have anything to do with the quality and real life performance of the car.

The class-action lawsuit against Chevrolet by owners of the Z06 Corvette hasn't reached final judgmemt. The Z06 Corvette owners class action lawsuit complaints that the Corvettes will not achieve the times advertised and seize up if even trying seem to indicate these cars simply don't belong in this class, one should not try to drive like one could a Porsche, and are a death risk if driven on a track with other cars. The uniform accounts by owners who had their Z06 Corvettes seize up and shut down after 15 minutes of less on a track, and the cars simply cannot produce these advertised numbers is enough for me to stick with the car maker who know how to make real supercars that are reliable at any speed for any length of time.

Also, I said they're impressive machines. There is just a stigma attached to them. Like it or not. It's unfortunate because they're well-engineered. But I wouldn't drive one.

I'm gonna get a sports car when I turn 40 in a few years. Not sure what it will be but it may be a corvette, it may be a 911, it may be something else ....don't have to decide yet

Ran across this in town a while back. I've never stopped and gawked at a car let alone photograph it but this was stunning.

That era of vettes are the most beautiful cars ever made in my opinion.

So true. I bought my kid a ‘17 Mustang GT California Special. It has 435 hp, whereas my Vette had around 455. Driving both, you’d swear the Vette had 100 hp more than the Mustang. Night and day difference. The Stang set me back around $42K - you can get a new ‘17 Vette for around $48K right now.

The new 18's are a lot faster than the 15-17s. Even the 15-17's don't need a whole lot of cash to make them a lot faster.

My 2015 GT + ~5k is much faster than any stock corvette out there. And no, I didn't supercharge it.

A 67 with a 427 would be a wet dream, but that’s a lot of cash. Same for 63 split window.

The '67 is the "only" one that I've lusted for...many years ago. Drove one. The '63 split window is only for collectors, you do not want to drive one they are downright dangerous to drive due to zero rear visibility. My roommate in college bought one after graduation in '69. Took him forever to sell it.

I'll take a Cobra 289FIA any day of the week over any but the '67 427.

This is laughable.
Again, I owned a 911 and a Vette and put both on the track. I used to think I knew what fast driving was because I took exits fast too. That is night and day from being on the track. When you are pushing it on the track - I’m talking flying down a straight at over 140 mph, getting HARD on the brakes then taking a turn at 60+ mph - or running a series of S turns at 80-90 mph - the tires are screeching around every single turn. While you’re shifting with your right hand, you’re also bracing against the stick shift to keep your arse in the seat. That’s driving - not taking an interstate exit “fast” - and both the Vette and 911perform very admirably (and again, I had better lap times in the Vette despite doing 6 track days in the 911 and only 1 in the Vette). I experienced more extreme moments in 1 lap around the track than I did in 35 years of street driving.

If you had to “wrestle” with a Vette while driving the street, you’re a shitty driver. No offense.

It’s not just the speed - the entire fit and finish, driving characteristics, etc. And your modded Stang may be faster on the drag strip, but won’t touch the Vette on a road coarse. Granted, the Vette should be better - it costs around $20K more. The similar prices I noted are only because I’m comparing leftover ‘17s in a new model year compared to a Mustang bought much earlier in the year. I still think the Mustang (and Camaro) are great cars for the price. A 400+ hp muscle car for around $35-45K is a bargain.
