Paid each game
Taxes are based where the games are played.
Minor league contracts are purchased by the big league club. I believe only the writer of the check changes.

For prospects and recently drafted people, agencies usually advance them some cash.

You'll hear them talking about game checks in the NFL. Does that mean FA who get cut before the season don't get paid anything?

You get about $40k for the offseason.

Holy crap. MLB teams must have the best accountants money can buy when you have to deal with individual employees being subject to tax withholding for so many different states within an individual pay period.

All the teams and a lot of the players have tax people at the biggest firms in the country. I know in the office where I work we have at least on franchise and an actor that films all over the country.

NFL players are paid after each game they play.. So they get a paycheck 16 times a year. I THINK... the teams that are in the playoffs.. Those players all get over $150k a game... In post season.

It is pretty complicated when it comes to taxes. All I know is that they have to file taxes in every state they play in.

I gotcha. For some reason I thought it was $150k+ a playoff game..I knew they got paid so much for each post season game. I think each player gets so much a week during training camp as well.. I think it might be somewhere between $1500-$2000.

But training camp and post season, separate from their contract.

Probably more than that. Friend of mine is getting $40k from when he signed as an UDFA through training camp.

Percentages go to agents, trainers, financial advisors, etc. They pay taxes where the play the game. Contracts are all different depending on how they’re written esp sport dependent. The NFL is the worst for the athlete.

Everyone acts like Texas, FL, etc teams have an advantage because of the no state income but it’s not as big as one thinks. They pay state taxes based on where the game was.

Athletes are paid very well. It’s not the business advisors and agents who break them. It’s the child support payments.

I had the opportunity to sign many a contract. Trust me, I know.

Nah, man. It's when you invest with Spencer Strasmore. I've seen Ballers.

Half your games will be in your state though.

For example, in 2017 the redskins only played 1 game in TX and 1 in washington. So 2 games without state income tax.

The cowboys played 8 home games, none in any other no income tax states. That’s 8 checks without state income tax compared to 2 for the redskins players.

4 times as many isn’t a big advantage?

Seattle had 10, 49ers had 2. 5 times as many.

It actually makes a huge difference. If you play in a no state income tax a minimum of 50% of your games aren't taxed at the state level. That could be a 5 or 6% difference of 10MM dollars.

Plenty of players have been burned by both. Clinton Portis was going to murder a financial guy that pretty much scammed him out of something like 25 mil or something crazy like that.

TX has an enormous property tax. So tack that onto a 3 million dollar home and it evens out pretty quick.

I always wondered how the very borderline guys can just up and move to NYC to SF for a few weeks/months. Obviously most don't have much money coming out of college.

Texas is massive. Property taxes differ by county.

Even then, property tax is solely calculated based on the value of home you decide to buy. It’s much more elective than a state income tax.
