Anybody with psychiatrists in the family?

My psychiatrist aunt is in from out of town and I spent the evening with her and I feel like I was under the microscope the whole time. I found myself picking my words carefully.
Also, a buddy of mine is married to a practicing psychologist and she gives me the same feeling. She’s great in mixed company, but I had to spend 30 minutes alone with her the other day and it put me on edge.
I assume that they separate their professional life with their private life for the most part, but I just know deep down their main intent is to psychoanalyze the shite out of people.
I couldn’t comprehend living with that shite all day every day. I’d assume there’s a motive to every question asked.

No, but several of my family members are in dire need of psychiatric attention.

Mrs Füt (no pics) has a MD co-worker who’s spouse is a psychiatrist.
I’m a normal OT Baller but I’m still a bit conscious when we have group sex with them.

My wife is a psychologist. She separates the two normally and doesn't share her thoughts about others if she has them.

Narcissism with a touch of alcoholism and a strong desire not to be called out on either. It’s a struggle.

My dad is a retired social worker. He’s an incredible person but I grew up feeling pretty analyzed. Now that’s what I do...and I hate it

I've always assumed, based on my experiences with psych people, that being a little, if not a lot, crazy is a prerequisite to getting into psych school.

Just politely deflect these annoying conversations and go do something else. You can’t go wrong being polite.
“Sorry to interrupt. I gotta go over there. Bye.”

I promise you- they get their fill at work. They don’t want to spend their free time trying to figure out what makes you tick. Do you want to do your job 24 hours a day and do it when you aren’t on the clock? Every mental health clinician I know, myself included, avoids trying to analyze friends and family. We are generally pretty good at separating our professional and personal selves. We have to be or we’d never be able to get away from the things we see and hear while working.
Besides- and this might be the most
Important thing- you aren’t that interesting. I don’t know you, but sorry- you just aren’t. Especially compared with some of the people we see and stories we hear. So relax and don’t worry so much about other people’s opinion of you.

Probably just a habit on their part.I kinda do the same thing.35 years a nurse I am constantly checking out people, looking at skin color, skin and hair texture, ear lobe creases, breathing patterns, etc.I try not to make it obvious, certainly don’t quiz them about their dietary habits,if they smoke, things like that.
I imagine it would be disconcerting to have conversations with psychology people and feel like they were assessing my mental health.

Spent 25 years in mental health and the last thing on my mind during leisure times was to psychoanalyze anyone.
Now, when I must try to gain insight, whether it is a person, team or the likes I liken it to a crime scene and my job is to unravel the mystery

I imagine it’s just you being insecure. They likely don’t give a shite about you. It’s kind of like when people assume I want to argue with them over some silly crap because I’m an attorney. I do that all day, every day, against people who are educated and trained to argue persuasively. Arguing with you is almost certainly going to be boring.

Man, you should not be intimidated at all. I studied a lot of psych in college, and know a few people that made a career of it.
But “reading” people can’t be taught in school. You either can sense things and relate to people and use the info you learn from them or you can’t.
Ex: you probably made a quicker and more correct assessment on her than she made on you.
