A young woman we know is taking the first steps into this lifestyle. She'll be leaving in February to go to some place in Oregon where she'll have limited contact with the outside world. They can communicate through letters, but apparently little if any internet access, phone calls, or visitors. It occurred to me that if this was some other organization it would raise all kinds of cult red flags. Instead people are congratulating her.

I just watched a show about a former nun in training. Hopefully it turns out a little better for the young woman you know.

All that land and wealth controlled by these organizations with just a few remaining members in nursing homes. Shrewd move.

A guy who converted with me is trying to join a monastery in Arkansas. It could be a really great fit for him as he has had some struggles with addiction and has really been trying to find a purpose. They do the brewing and all that jazz too so hopefully it gives him purpose and some things to fill his spare time with positive activities. He’s basically discerning right now, as they asked him to take considerable time to make a decision. He also is diabetic and they are basically required to only eat food donated to them so there are some dietary complications. Anyway, I’m rambling.

I have a relative who is a nun for the Catholic diocese in Mississippi.

I don’t know what kind of initiation was involved since she is older than me but her order isn’t near as strict as that one seems to be since they wear normal clothes instead of the penguin habits.

Not personally, but I have known nuns. When I went to confirmation class, it was taught by a nun. She was a bitter old bitch. I remember one day the priest came to our class and someone asked him if it was a sin to hit a nun..

Sounds a lot like my friends and family members in the military.

You don't have to renounce that shite for life in the military. You have to make sacrifices, but you can get out when your hitch is up, and even when you're in, your free time is your own, with rare exceptions.
