I thought I was friends with a monk but he won't talk to me.

she joined after my grandfather passed. knew she would never remarry. Carmalites aren't your typical Catholic nuns that everyone thinks of.

I know a monk. he is from tibet though. Cool guy but his english sucks.
I knew a guy who was studying to be a priest when I was at LSU. And one girl I worked with decided to seduce him and she did. He still went into the priesthood tho

Aren't they cloistered and take a vow of poverty?
Probably not a bad trade off for a religious widow. You contribute your assets and then get cared for as you age. Better than a reverse mortgage.

My sister is a nun in the Philippines
Edit: you're right about the cult part.

I know 1 nun. I actually went to high school with her. The last time I saw her before she decided to become a nun she was getting raw dogged behind Blaise’s in Maurice. I guess that was a turning point in her life.
ETA: Also, my wife’s cousin (my good friend’s brother) is a priest. He’s a pretty cool guy (for a priest), he’ll still get drunk and hang out with us like a normal guy in his late 20’s.

I've known two nuns, after both had left.
One I roomed with in Chicago. She had been in a teaching order and left when her Mother Superior refused to let her take in students of hers who were being threatened late one night.
The other worked for me in Houston. She ran into a problem because she needed to buy a newish car after a deer wiped out her car. She had no credit. Duh. If as a former nun she'd had great credit, she wouldn't have been a good nun. We helped her deal with a bank.

remember one day the priest came to our class and someone asked him if it was a sin to hit a nun..
I think I asked a priest that same question back in middle school. American nuns are the worst. Many are devout catholic lesbians who are entering the sisterhood as to not act on their lesbianism, or they are ugly as sin and don’t want to end up an old, alone cat lady.
Life long catholic here.

In high school, I had a teacher who said that he was considering joining the priesthood in college and one of the tests to see if he would continue on the life of celibacy was a trip to Bourbon Street to look at what they would be missing out in the priesthood.
Needless to say, he chose teaching and got married to a woman.

My cousin is one of the sisters at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady. Definitely not cloistered.
Of course, sometimes we wouldn't hear from her for months at a time because she used to go to some true shitholes where communication (or running water and a functioning government) were luxuries.

I have an aunt who is a nun. She worked all her life as a teacher/principal and seemed to find the whole lifestyle very fulfilling.
the good thing about the convent is that they take very good care of their own as they age. Basically, they take a vow of poverty and in exchange, they are provided for very well throughout their life.

My grandmother’s sister was a Carmalite nun. I was was also named after her. She was cloistered and only saw family once every 5 or so years & it was behind a screen.
