The powers that be are dangling Mardi Gras like a carrot in front of the citizens. I’m an outsider, but I get the feeling that growth has stagnated a bit. Tourism is a main industry, and the leaders would rather drive folks away and use fear as a ruling force.

There’s constant opposition on here, and I realize many of you live in outlying areas. Is there anybody on here that lives in city proper and supports Latoya and thinks the restrictions are a good thing?

Live here and no. I’ve got a foot out the door. Up until the pandemic, I had, even if only just barely, more reason to stay here than to leave. The only thing keeping me here now are my close friends and family, and still a place in my heart that I want to be here if we can ever elect someone TO FIX IT.

And as far as the queen goes, I wouldn’t piss on that count if she was on fire.

It was a simple question. Care to weigh in?

I lived in BR for college for 5 years and New Orleans the other 34. I used to love this city, but I hate what it’s become. Sure crime was always a problem in certain areas, but it’s now widespread even in the more affluent ones. I’ve noticed as I got older that being white, I’m in the minority and no matter what the people sucking off the government teet always outweigh my concerns and votes. It suck and I’m ready to leave my family to start over somewhere else.

Not playing contrarian here, but when do you feel like it was really growing?

Not going to happen in the foreseeable future. Like a LONG time. You're lucky if that happens in your kids' lifetime. Friendly advice: Leave. If you like the culture, most authentic NO culture moved into surrounding areas in the last few decades anyway.

You're more likely to be carjacked at gunpoint than die of covid in NOLA right now.

# of covid press conferences- dozens
# of press conferences about crime- zero

Priorities are screwed and the city will continue to be as well until everyone with money and sense moves elsewhere (and I'm talking about the whole state)

Live here yes. Support not really. It's weird though and maybe I'm insulated in my little bubble but I work with people that have moved back to New Orleans and have wanted to after living in other metros.

Then again if I lived in the burbs I would want to end my life on the daily.

Many take a very short sighted, narrow view: looking at post Katrina growth. Truth is there was a larger population in the city 100 years ago than there is now. Pre-Katrina already saw massive decline in population.
As a metro area (Orleans,JP, StB, StCharles, Plaquemines, StTammany) it isnt as dramatic as that, but relative to other Southern metro areas, it's quite anemic, considering that New Orleans was once the 3rd largest city in the nation. NO was once "The Queen of the South" and global economic player. Now it is hospitality based "Boutique City" with a faux narrative about being a "culture based city" instead of a center of commerce. Sad to see. The long term decline has only sped up. Get out while you can. As city centers crater across the country, we have yet to see how the metro area will respond. Some think they'll do fine. IMO, the immediate suburbs of NO seem to be declining as well, esp Metairie and Chalmette (Arabi may be a micro-success do to the middle class exodus from Bywater). St Tammany and St Charles might be another decade behind them.

I mean LaToya is terrible but I also don’t think New Orleans is any worse today than it was 20 years ago.

Agreed. I’m not a Latoya supporter, but I don’t lose my mind every time she says something. And I’m certainly not going to move because of her.

I’m very happy living and raising a family in Orleans Parish. I would argue that my neighborhood has improved dramatically over the past 15 years. Doesn’t mean that it’s perfect and I don’t want certain things to be better. But I do think claims of New Orleans demise are greatly exaggerated.

Fell in love with living in the city, but now I can’t wait to leave. If there were a legit suburb option I would be out of here tomorrow.

I moved away just before Katrina and spent a great deal of time in Lakeview. I don't remember near daily vehicle break ins or insane issues regarding robberies and carjackings (especially during the daytime.) Now, the streets were a God awful mess, graffiti was everywhere and the homeless were starting to become a serious issue but going from what I've seen / heard, it wasn't close to what it is now.
