ow is it wasted?
While you're working at your desk, Im working in my truck.
I'm just assuming most people are not billing or getting paid while they are commuting
if you are in sales or whatever, thats fine
I can't work from my truck while driving.

I drove BR to Nola for 2 years, 5 days a week. Absolutely hated it. Had to buy a shitty car b/c my truck was guzzling $4/gallon gas at that time.
Only reason i did it was b/c i knew there would be a promotion to outside sales.
I started looking for another job before i got my promotion b/c in now way was i going to keep driving that much. I actually like my wife, and now i have 2 kids, and spending 3 hours driving by myself every day is a waste of the time i'm going to spend on this earth.

I could live closer, but what would I be giving up to do that.
Come Friday afternoon, I have miles and miles of safe roads to ride my bike, I have a ridiculous amount of parks within walking distance, more restaurants than I care to eat at, etc.
I could live closer to downtown, but I'd be paying nearly twice as much. My wife would probably have to go back to work and we would have to send our 4 month old son to day care. I wouldn't have a yard for my dog, etc.. And I'd still have a decent drive as my work is spread all across Houston. I certainly do not mind the driving if it means the time that I spend at home is that much more enjoyable.

When I get in my truck Im on the phone or answering emails the entire time, back and forth.......if not then I'm listening to news or the radio...catching up on current events.
I make my windshield time productive time.

No way. I complain about my 5.9 mile commute now.

Amount of miles doesn't mean much. How long would it take to drive those 45-60 miles?

I didn't drive a lot of miles but 5 pm traffic got old very quick. My commute just went from 35-55 minutes (depending on traffic) to about 7. I'm absolutely thrilled

Like daily? How long did it take before you started hating your job due to that? Is it worth a 40% pay bump to take a job requiring that (assuming you won't relocate closer to said job)?
I can't imagine. I'd blow my brains out, unless the money was great, like at least twice what I'm making now.
That kind of grind eventually takes its toll on anyone.

Katy to Baytown/Mt Belvieu. Around 130ish round trip. I was doing that daily from jan - June this year but have been in the office since June, which is only 12 miles from my house.
It sucks at first but you do get use to it....it just sucks a little bit less. I will have to start making this commute daily agian in the next few months

This job is about 52 miles from my driveway. 90% interstate but SOME traffic. So about a 45-50 min drive with light-medium traffic. Nothing heavy barring a big wreck jamming it up.

I do. 150 miles a day roundtrip. A big pay bump is why I did it. Been doing it for 2 years now. You get used to it, and it teaches you zen and patience. The one thing that makes me hate it sometimes is the fact that I lose close to 4 hours of my day from the commute. Thus eliminating almost all of my free time.

I drive from Gonzales to Kenner. 44 Miles one way. Twenty years at five days per week.
I listen to Hannagriff and Ott until I get to Laplace. Signal fades. Then I listen to 100.3 out of New Orleans.
I use roughly 70 gallons if fuel each month. The recent fall of fuel prices has netted me an extra 100 dollars per month.

I drive from baton rouge to opelousas everyday but they make it well worth it. .

I drive 65 miles one way(takes an hour). I actually moved away from Columbus but didn't want to part ways with my job. I'm used to the drive now and it doesn't bother me at all, but the miles I put on my car stings.
I do only work 4 days a week, which helps, but I'm the type of person that would prefer to work 5 shorter days. With the drive, I just refuse to switch back to that schedule though.
