I guess I have been fortunate not to have the experience. This came from a friend and he was probably joking but the line stayed with me all these years.
I guess with all the pain coming from further upstream, it must come as somewhat of a relief to get to that point.

Had two in one night back in 04’ started out like stich in my lower left back then gradually got worse...went to ER not knowing what was going on.... went through triage they sent me out to wait.... went and threw up a couple times as the pain had moved to my groin... felt like someone had my nuts in a vice... went and crawled in a corner and passed out... 8hrs later of in and out of consciousness some nurse came by and asked who I was... and she said we’ve been calling your name for hours... they took me back gave me some good pain meds did cat scan sayw two stones... sent me home with a strainer to catch them... stay away from dairy and cokes... lots of water

Everyone has their own stories...
Mine: Went to Bonaroo 2013. Drank nothing but alcohol for 4 days straight. 7 of us took a big arse van up there. On the way back, my friend was leaning on me asleep. I wake up and feel like my back lower right side is tight, almost like I pulled a muscle. I go to take a piss at a gas station, and my urine is brown...BROWN. It looked like I had put ice in a coke and watered it down. We get back to BR, luckily for some odd reason I went to stay at my parent's house that night. I'm exhausted from the 5 days of crazienss prior. It's about 10pm and I'm falling asleep...all the sudden it feels like someone fricking stabs me in the back. I was rolling around SCREAMING. My parents were freaked out. We get to the ER, and as we pull up the pain just disappears. So I take heavy sleeping meds and sleep. Wake up, go to the doctor. He immediately prescibes me Oxy. I go home, drink a 6-pack of Coors Light and take an Oxy. I passed by stone and I honestly don't even remember it. Then I had a big bottle of oxy for a while

The moving of the stone inside is where the pain comes from as it passing through your system. By the time you piss it out it is usually broken up into smaller pieces and just gives off a weird sensation coming out.
Just my experience.

I have only ever had one. I now drink at least 40-64 oz of water every single day. Never had another one since.
Worst 2 days of my life.

I just had them a month ago. Sounds exactly like my pain. My pain progressed over a matter of a few hours to the point I went in to the ER and got morphine. ER doc told should it happen again to take 500mg of ibuprofen and drink lots of water. I’ll tell you, it was so painful I was mf’ing everybody at the ER. It paled in comparison to the pain I experienced with testicular torsion and the surgery that followed to repair.

i pretty much don't go to the ER or doc anymore for them - i just wait for the pain to end from the attack and go to work. ive gotten used to the pain and can tolerate it for the most part.
I did pass one in DFW in between flights - was thankful it didn't happen in flight. passed 1 at a clients location while doing some work - excused myself to the bathroom and passed it. felt a million times better the rest of the day - made training go better also.

you are home free once it’s in the bladder.
Everybody is different. Mine hit the bladder and stayed for 2 weeks not wanting to exit. The sharp pain was gone but the overwhelming urge to pee every 5 minutes stays. I was drinking 3-4 liters of water a day trying to pass it and just to have something to pee. I’m not sure which was worse. That 4 hours of intense pain or the two weeks of discomfort.

Used to get them often! Even had one so large the doctors went in through my back into the kidney in a procedure known as PNL (percutaneous nephrolithotomy) to remove big pieces of stone. Took 2 surgeries to remove all the stone material.
Had a wise old pediatrician tell me he usually drinks a 6 pack of beer in an hour. Serves 2 purposes: lessens pain and superhydrates system to help pass the stone. Worked well for all subsequent attacks.

They mainlined morphine when I had them and it barely did anything.
Pain so bad I kind of lost it a little bit.
I turned into a monster in the ER when I wasn't puking from pain.

Sounds like stones baw
Take it from an expert since I’ve been dealing with this shite and gout for years.
Loritab 10 helped a lot
Mix 4 ounces of olive oil with 4 ounces of squeezed lemon juice and shoot it 1-2 times a day
Oil acts as a lubricant while the acid in the lemon grinds down the edges of the stone
For a quick relief bath tub full of the hottest water you can stand and soak in it. This works great if the pain is in nuts
Got to Lay off dark colas, tea and coffee and anything that contains oxalates
Look them up
Hang in there and suck it up baw
You have some painful days ahead !

If they hadn’t allowed me to skip the waiting room, I would have been handcuffed to my hospital bed. I have nightmares that I will get another stone.

I drink 8 glasses of water everyday in fear of ever getting a kidney stone.
It never helped me. I drank only water and drank it all day long and still have had 3 bouts of kidney stones. I had to have a basket extraction and thats the worst thing I have ever gone through. I have broken many bones and suffered serious ailments of many varieties and that was by far the worst thing I ever endured in my lifetime. Pissed chunks of meat and straight blood for a week and the first time I ejaculated 9 days after the surgery was like ejaculating pure fire. I do not recommend the basket extraction.

I am so nervous about ever getting one after reading these responses. What percentage of people get them?

I had one a few years ago. It was small compared to some of the horror stories you hear, but it still hurt like hell. It was about the size of half a grain of rice, and it put me on my knees.
