Get a Futur with 100pk of Gillette green 7'o clock for around 10$ on ebay. You will spend 60$ for a year and a half of shaving including the Futur razor. You're welcome.

I get 60-80 shaves out of a Gillette Proglide blade
How?!? I seriously would love to know.

Taylor of old bond street: $15 lasts me 6-8 months
50 Feather platinum coated blades: $13 and will last me 12-18 months
Here's what I use and I have great results. Someone find me a really good shave that is cheaper than this.
This is a good combo, also like the persona blue blades, about half the cost of feathers, they are the same as the medical version but packaged for barbers.

There are YouTube videos on how to "strop" a cartridge razor. Need and old pair of blue jeans you don't wear anymore and some rubbing alcohol.
It works. It's not like a brand new blade but it is improved.

Costs more up front but a straight razor can last a lifetime.
I've been straight razor shaving for about a month. Just starting to get decent at it. If you know how to use a knife already, it's not bad at all to learn.

I recently purchased a Muhle safety razor and some Gillette blades, but it still gives me some razor burn, and I'm sure it's my technique, but I'd really like to save some serious cash by using the much less expensive blades. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I don't know much about the Muhle - right now the "new" 3 piece market is dominated by Merkur and Edwin Jaeger - I have one of each. You may have to experiment with a blade sampler pack to find the right combination of blade and razor that works for your whiskers and skin. I settled on Gillette 7 O'Clocks - I started with the greens, moved to the yellows and I'm going to try black or blue next time. But, you may end up having good results with Wilkinson or Shark or whatever - so try a sampler pack, shave with each blade 2 or 3 times and take notes. Buy a big batch of the one that does the best for closeness, irritation and nicks.
Good luck.

think I may be inadvertently pushing down and causing the irritation.
Yeah - the visualization is that you are letting the razor's weight do the cutting - all you are doing is maintaining contact and angle.
Also, you might want to adjust your angle - you want to be flat as possible while still removing the whiskers, at a certain point, a more aggressive angle stops being effective and just starts cutting your skin. This is similar to straight razor shaving principles.

I've been using a safety razor for about 5 years
Buy one of the razor sample packs on amazon and go with the ones you like.
Be careful with feather though, I've found they are by far the sharpest and give you little room for error.
Get a decent aftershave and play with those as well. See what works best with your skin.

Just a FYI, Muhle and Jaeger use the same head manufacturer, had to order a replacement after breaking the stud off one and they are interchangable part #'s

bought a Dovo a while back and just recently summed up the courage to use it, looked like I got in a fight with Freddie Kruger the first few times but got a bit better.
Too time intensive for daily use IMHO

I think Merkur is the same way - my Merkur 2-piece head fits on the EJ handle and vice versa.
