My catfish ponds are full of huge crawfish I just put traps out every February and have a big tank with aeration I store them in. They’re all bigger than most you buy from Louisiana. Caught 1500 lbs last year with 40 traps

So your family is single-handedly responsible for the popularity of crawfish in Texas?

They need to be tarred and feathered for creating this fiasco!

Crawfish prices are screwed because people, like my family, moved from LA to Houston and got the entire city hook on it. Growing up we would do crawfish boils and half the people wouldn't eat them or it was the first time they had seen crawfish, now seeming every restaurant/bar in the city has boils.

Moved the family from Acadiana to Ft. Bend County almost a decade ago. Into a neighborhood with extremely welcoming folks all around; however, Day 1, one of the first questions, "So do you know how to boil crawfish?".

Been doing an annual street boil every since.

Same as every year. Lots of rain but lots of no rain, it’s too cold but it was too hot, so crawfish are expected to be beautiful with a great harvest, but prices will still be high.

Latest Covid variant is fast moving and highly contagious within the crustacean handling population. expect an increase in per lb cost as well as a "convenience fee" for removing them from the water.

And, you know we had a super freeze in December and now January is above avg temps, so.....Get yo checkbooks out!

You must got manure for brains!

lol

Price is high right now due to short supply because its fricking January 6th
I'd bet only 25% or less of the pond acres are being run daily

Farm price will probably be around $3 by the end of the month/be around $2 for holy week and drop to $1-1.50 after lent just like every single year

If everyone wouldn't be begging for them right now when its not even crawfish season then maybe the price wouldn't be so high

This
I paid $7.99 a pound this week for 5 pounds. I completely understand why the price was what it was

not really
usually a sit down restaurant will be around 3X what the farm price will be in South LA or Houston - the further out you go in will be higher

boil & go might be a little cheaper

Aint no way sit down prices are $3-$4.50 when farm prices go to $1-$1.5. They won't go lower than $5 and that doesn't include all dem fixins like corn, potato, sausage, mushrooms etc.

Houston people will pay $14 a pound for them, so farmers will send a bunch that way.

Over here in LA, we will pay $3 a lb live and close to $8 boiled.

Bought some here in Bama from a guy that made runs to LA each week during the season. Paid 3.00 lb 10 years ago. Have not bought any since.

Funny, but can’t buy hot boiled crawfish with EBT

Anyone that sells it, should be reported
