I have family in Syracuse (Sicily not New York) that I talk to on a regular basis. They say they feel torn as to what is occurring. They feel for the Immigrant/Asylum seekers and agree with the help that the Italian government is extending to them and that it would be inhuman to deny them help. At the same time they can see that this huge influx of people (who they say refuse to assimilate in any fashion) are placing such a strain on all services that can not support this effort for much longer without destroying their (Sicilians) current way of life. My cousin also told me that there is some concern for pamphlets have been turning up that are suggesting to recent arrivals that it would be nice to restore Sicily to the Islamic Emirate that it was 1100 years ago.

Such a conundrum.

Mesut Ozil is a famous German soccer player 3rd generation immigrant from Turkey and apparently speaks very poor German. Let's not be naive about it. The current western and northern Europeans are a complacent, toothless group, so I doubt they do enough to make the hard choices.

He also isn't a poor migrant living off of government assistance and the rest of the countries taxes. He is actually stimulating their economy with his work. He also isn't grouping up in a poor Muslim community destroying the christian culture of Europe. Don't pretend Mesut Ozil is even close to what these migrants are.

Turkey could also be doing much more than they are. It's a real shame.

I'm at a recurrent class with some members of the Turkish Air Force and we were talking about this and they said they are already extremely over burdened with the amount of refugees currently. They said they have over 2 million refugees currently in the country and the crime is outrageous (sounds familiar) and they don't have the money to deal with it. They mentioned something about getting some new military aircraft (our old crap, maybe F4s or F16s) and they want to start blowing crap up in Syria ASAP.

Get back with me when it's reached the 20 million freeloaders we've taken in.

How is it a conundrum?

Either let them in, not assimilate and start bombing you or don't let them in. It's a pretty easy choice once you understand that eventually you are just importing future terrorists.

and European nanny states. Understand that a lot of those migrants are deliberately trying to get to nanny state countries for the freebies just like many latinos come here for welfare.
That may be true for some, but I think getting bombed into oblivion has more to do with it.

The Swedish & German citizenry are actually starting to push back and call for an end to the openness of the ruling parties to accept the refugees.

You can add Norway to that list as well, which just shows how much of an issue it is as Norway has always been proud of it's willingness to take in immigrants.

The problem isn't immigrants, it's that there's so damned many of them.

Just curious if the citizens in Europe that are pushing back are being labeled as racists.

Probably because they are unarmed.

Kind of off topic but I was at that dump of a train station in Budapest this past April. All I can say to those refugees is that those Hungarian police do not mess around

This is a really crazy time in Europe. I have spent a few months there over the last few years and my last girlfriend was from Norway.

You have entire city blocks being overrun and taken over by Muslim refugees. They don't assimilate, but instead try to apply their Sharia-type laws to their hosts. Rape, crime, etc is skyrocketing and there is not a mechanism for the citizenry to do much.

You have hundreds of thousands flooding into the region.

London and Paris have completely changed over the last 10 years as the ME has destabilized. Of course, the racial aspect comes into play creating a bitter, disenfranchised youth. It's going to get much worse before it gets better.

wanna stop the Syrian refugee crisis?

Send an alliance of EU/Turkish military to remove the syrian gov't, destroy ISIS strongholds and allow the people to develop a new government of their own without western influence.

Frick whatever Russian sabre rattling response might come.

Once the region stabilizes, you may want to offer a monetary stimulus to those refugees who return home. That stimulus can help rebuild their country as well as be cheaper for the host nations in the long run compared to the immigrants staying in Europe.

You clowns that expect Muslims to assimilate need to be sterilized and made to study history.

These are the same people that think it's "honorable" to kill their teenage daughters because of something she wears or listens to on her ipod.

Think about that for a second.

the German welfare system is not going to be able to handle all those refugees. Send them back, and let them fight ISIS or Assad or whoever else is involved.

Feel bad for all these refugees. Life must be horrible to risk the journey these people are taking for refuge.

Don't know what the solution is.. But it's more complicated then "let them in with open arms" or "send them back"

No. Don't care. Zero fricks given.

We have our own issues here to deal with.

The liberal leaders in Europe refused to listen to their own people and stop importing Muslims, even before this crisis. Now it's refugees on top of the migrants, and refugees deserve sympathy and help but it'd be a mistake to allow them to permanently settle in Europe. There were huge anti immigration protests after the Charlie Hebdo killings in European cities which received scant publicity. It's unsustainable and Europeans shouldn't be expected to take them all in.
