Done it in Destin and it sucks. It's cool for about 30 seconds. But other than that, not worth it

Never tried parasailing or paramotoring.

I've been wanting to fly a paramotor since I watched the video below of some guy flying his paramotor to McDonald's for breakfast. It's on my bucket list.

Yes, drunk as hell in Cancun on my senior trip. Probably one of my most questionable decisions.

Did it once and literally as soon as I reached the max height they started reeling it back in. And it was expensive as frick. Definitely not really worth it IMO, unless you actually get to stay up there for a decent amount of time. Certainly wasn't worth the money for how they did mine. I guess it is a "glad I did it, don't need to do it again" kind of thing.

Did once on cruise in Haiti. Wife and I did at same time. I did not like it. Especially seeing the sharks swim below us. Wife loved it.

Try it.

I've parasailed a few times, including in Destin. It's fun. My older kids have done it with me, and they enjoyed it too. If you have an inexpensive camera, especially a waterproof one with a wrist strap (I have a little Nikon waterproof I bought on an Amazon closeout for $65), bring it up with you and take pictures from aloft. (Bringing your phone risks dropping it, which probably means losing it forever, a rather expensive mistake.)

OTOH, I've also done actual parachuting a couple of times, and parasailing is a pretty far cry from letting go of an airplane a few thousand feet in the air, and then being by yourself and untethered under the chute canopy as the world below drifts by and slowly approaches.

I just watched a TikTok where a parasailing line snapped in a storm in Mexico and he flew off over the hotel.

YouTube

Looks like he was recovered.

Listen when they tell you when to run.

Where we did it, they lift you right off the back of the boat. You stand on a deck, boat moves, parachute lifts you right up and they feed line out. They pick people up off the beach with a waverunner pulling a floatable thing and shuttle you to and from the boat. We spotted easily a half dozen sharks from the air in our short time up there - some of them big arse hammerheads too.

Time in the air seemed short for the people before me, so I paid attention to the hotels on the beach at my start and end points. Drove it later and it was like 1/4 of the distance they charge you for. Like I said before, when you pay you need to nail them down to a number of minutes in the air and have it written on your receipt, then hold the driver to it. They probably won’t do that though.

I remember some girls in Panama City several years ago who were parasailing and were flown into the side of a condo building.

When I first saw that video a long time ago, I researched it for days. You're right about expensive. That's kind-of why it's on the bucket list for now. Used ones aren't bad, but that's not something I'd buy used.

My first thought was for surf fishing. You could fly your bait out a couple hundred yards or more and drop it. Fly back to shore. Drink beer and wait for Jaws.

Wait, are we still talking about parasailing here?

I'll be honest, it's cool for the first few mi utes and then it's just kinda boring. I don't think it's worth what they charge these days. For 4 people it was over $200 I think.

Parasailers broke free and smashed into our condo in PCB. True story. Haven't been motivated to try since then.

Paramotoring. Basically the same thing. It has a motor and you don't need a cliff to jump off of. You can run a few feet and take off.

We have units in that building. We weren't there at the time, but it was freaky. I have wondered how they are doing today.
