When my dad was a preacher in California we knew a family that had a church there in the area and we would go up every couple of years

It’s filled with a bunch of worthless hippies, if you’re asking me.

This sounds like the setup for a Lifetime movie. Young woman moves to remote island community to run a BandB, meets quirky local townsfolk, has to deal with some kind of crisis and saves the day, with the help of a handsome local guy in flannel with a mysterious past.

That would be a Hallmark movie. In the Lifetime version the guy would turn out to be a bigamist and/or stalker.

Yep, and it’s a helluva lot of fun if you have a boat to island hop from resort to resort.

Gorgeous country out there when I visited a few years ago. I went to both Orca and San Juan. Stayed in Roach Harbor a few nights on my boss’s yacht. If she likes outdoor activities, she’ll love the area.

yes, after Katrina I spent some time up there & it’s AMAZING!

Spent some on Victoria Island, zero crime, super clean and friendly people.

on the car ferry from Victoria to Vancouver, we passed Orca Island while doing so, everyone started making chatter outside on the deck of the ferry & we walked outside to see what it was about & it was about 8-10 Pods of Orca Migrating South for the upcoming winter. the locals on the ferry said they had never seen it like that before & we were lucky to experience it being that small window of time.

this was around October 2005

That entire area and British Colombia, i love!

As mentioned, that part of the continent is magnificent and beautiful. The PNW is a hidden gem.

If you've never visited it is worth the trip.

Been there. Had to take a ferry to get on San Juan Island. One would have to be okay with a bit of isolation. But the island was beautiful as is the area.

Stayed on Orca island for a week about 12 years ago. Amazing place. Not sure if I would want to be there full time, but it would be cool to try it out for a year and see how it goes.

Much of the BC and Alaskan coast are similar.

Literally thousands of miles of islands and sea.

Yes, I am a regular up there and am headed back for Labor Day.

The islands are accessed predominantly by ferry from Anacortes. Reservations during the summer are strongly recommended if not essential. Once in the islands, it’s easy moving around on the inter-island ferry between the three major islands.

San Juan Island is the most populated as it is home to the county’s lone city, Friday Harbor.

Orcas Island is the largest of the San Juan Islands, the second most populated, and the most geographically spectacular. Some of the San Juan Islands are steep hills that shoot out of the sea. The east half of Orcas is one of them and home to Mt. Constitution ( LINK ) which at 2,399 ft. elevation is higher than 15 states. The state park which it is in is also awesome, one of the state’s best, with multiple higher elevation lakes and waterfalls.

I hiked to the top of Mt. Constitution last year. Beautiful place. Would absolutely live there.
