It never stops....

Just remember, we’re only a fart away from a nuclear holocaust, then your savings won’t matter anyway.

425 bucks for drivers Ed for my 15 yr old this week….. wtf??? When did this happen?
Talk about a rip off money racquet.

ac is at 74 when it’s set to 70.
do you budget for the extra clothes you have to wear at that temp?
seriously, ours at work is set to 73 and I can't get work done for being so cold. I can't imagine 70 in a house. How bout more/better insulation?
we sleep at 77 right now and that's about right.

Echo the thought here that these kinds of expenditures seem to come in clusters rather than linearly.
So you’re getting cluster fricked right now.
Also, I saw this somewhere online and it’s true that “$100 bills are adults’ $1.00 bills from when you were a kid”.
It’s why financial planners tell folks to get a six month stash of regular monthly expenses for these kinds of irregular issues.
We called it our “roof fund” when we started out, in case we had to replace the roof (and I’m very handy around the house but I wasn’t going to self-perform that shite).

I too feel the same way. Every time I turn around, the universe is holding out its hand for more money.
Roof leak on a 3 y/o roof? Check.
Home’s main drain pipe crack? Check.
Compressor on 8 yo AC “hanging on by a thread” per AC guy? Check.
Homeowners more than doubling two months ago? Check.
2 y/o oven needing major repair (out of warranty of course). Check.
Luckily the vehicles aren’t old and are Japanese, so fingers crossed there won’t be any surprises there.
OP, you aren’t alone. It’s just expensive to exist right now.

Btw, it’s almost always just crud building up in the plug. Most places won’t even charge to clean it up. Just a 30 second job passing a tool in there.
Correct. Had similar issue myself

Today, my wife’s phone won’t charge and it’s been that way for a week. So she buys a new IPhone 15. . frick me
Would be having a talk. While we could “afford” the newest phone, it would be irresponsible right now especially given that we could have other things pop up. Like both cars and the house needing new AC unexpectedly.
My wife is in the exact same spot. Phone is starting to crap, but she is holding out for September/October so she can buy an older model at a better discount.
Just going out and buying the latest $1200 phone without discussing it would lead to a fight.

It’s always something. You knock out five things on your list and five more pop up. Constantly treading water.

If it makes you feel any better, I came home to a brand new Bennington tritoon that my wife decided we needed and ordered 12 weeks ago.
Don’t sweat the small stuff.

My catalytic converters were stolen Jan 2022. I just spent about $4000 on new catalytic converters. frickin pissed I tell ya. Some shitball thief stole all four. Insurance replaced them with shitty non-OEM and they went out after 2.5 years. I wouldn’t have cared but I couldn’t pass inspection and get a new brake tag. What a racket.
Such bull. They are getting that triple whammy just to get you street ready again.
Criminal steals gets cash spends cash
You have to spend cash to replace your parts
Inspection gets their little cut teflon Don style
Hey look on the bright side mechanics are safely employed.

The OT told me in another thread last week that kids are not expensive.

I got roasted for pointing out that kids today are a liability financially.

That’s cheap. Most schools are around $600-$700.

Take up golf. I’ve found it’s best to give the almighty things to laugh at so I catch a break on other things.
After all, if I cant afford to play he loses the entertainment of watching me bounce one off a gator onto the green.

One of those hits just also happened to be an A/C kit replacement to the tune of $1300 last week.

What’s frustrating is funds meant for fun go to this shite. I’m planning on going to Alaska for some cast and blast. Now, it’d feel selfish as hell spending that allocated dough on that when I need to spend it on my family. We’ll see, I’ll figure it out.
I’m sure you will figure it out but just a little advice from experience. If your family is not going without and you don’t do anything for yourself very often, take the trip.
You need to put a little back into your own glass from time to time or it will eventually catch up to you and then you won’t be able to support your family like you want.

In the past year - privacy fence replacement, new heat pump, replace and support ceiling in garage as builder failed to build with proper roof support, replaced tile in kitchen and entryway, far too much to the IRS, new tires on both vehicles....did I mention insurance premiums?
Hopeful the nuttiness will abate...and then there is the grocery store.
Our 3 children are grown, just the two of us. Your dollar goes no where near as far as ours once did but then ours not as far as our parents
