Any stories about over coming an eating disorder?

My girlfriend of about a year has told me about an eating disorder that she's battled for quite a while now. I don't know where to go to find help and I won't tell any family or friends and betray her trust. Has anyone known someone to battle this? I don't know what to do.

Professional help where? The student health center on campus doesn't have an overwhelmingly positive reputation. And I don't know where else can handle this situation.

The best thing you can do is avoid being an enabler of the situation. Be supportive of her steps to become healthier, but don't enable it.
Reality is she's going to need treatment (therapy, inpatient or outpatient care, etc.) to fully improve. If you're in BR I can suggest some professionals for her to meet with.

After reading the title, I was going to suggest a Blue Bomber!

Also, try to encourage her to talk to parents/family about it. It will help

The problem with talking to the family is her dad is what she accredits this too. I've seen it personally. He is very quick to point out how fat she is at the drop of a hat. In reality, she's a size 2 at most with a wonderful figure. It's disgusting that someone treats his daughter like that and I despise that man.

Thought this was going to be about overcoming erectile disfunction.

Really depends on the type of parents. Yes, ultimately it's good for them to know. But some can make it worse. Think dad saying "just eat more" or mom coddling her and letting her continue to deteriorate.
Or as OP pointed out...being the source of the image issues.

I'd suggest she talk to Tiffany Stewart at Pennington Research Center. LINK
While she isn't a therapist she's been in the ED research world in BR for over 10 years now and will be able to suggest the right path for her to get healthy. Including who your gf needs to begin treatment with.
BR Christian Counseling that's run by licensed therapists at First Presbyterian downtown is another great option. Only issue is they do not accept insurance.

Sorry to hear about that man. Parents can really frick up their children.
But she should see a psychiatrist.

the always eating kind, the not eating kind, or the reverse eating kind?

I dated a girl for about two years that told me she had a eating disorder in high school, the reverse eating kind. Whatever you know, she looked fine to me now and told me it never happened since she went to counseling.
Turns out she went to the entire other end of the spectrum. She started eating obscene amounts of food, just textbook straight binge eating. We would go out to eat and she would literally eat so much she would get sick and throw up. Not make herself throw up, but literally eat so much food she would vomit it back up, sometimes before we even made it back to the truck.
I know you care about her or you wouldn't be here asking for honest advice but here's mine: run. It's usually not the only mental disorder they have man and it's not something that is easy to overcome.

Is it the good kind of eating disorder or is she too fat?

Run away as fast as you can. If she is a one year girlfriend with this kind of drama you will be doomed after you marry her.

Married to a woman with an ED. Not fun, lots of issues. BR Christian Counseling is very good and some of the counsellors do take insurance. River Oaks hospital in New Orleans has a very good inpatient program, there are girls from all over the country there.
