Any Skidmore, MO residents on this board want to tell what happened on July 10, 1981?

Wikipedia

quote:

On July 10, 1981, Ken McElroy was shot to death with at least two different guns while sitting in his truck in front of the D&G Tavern in town. Up to 50 individuals witnessed the event, all of whom denied seeing anything that would help police identify any of the shooters. McElroy's wife saw one of the gunmen and identified him. The prosecutor took the case to two grand juries, but neither one thought any crime had been committed so there was no indictment. As of 2021, the murder has not been solved and still is considered an open case.[9] McElroy had a reputation as the "town bully," and he had fended off over 20 charges for acts of theft, rape, and other violence (often by means of witness intimidation).

Sounds like the end of Roadhouse when Brad Wesley died but they all played dumb to it.

I was going to mention the similarities to Road House, but funnily enough it’s not mentioned in the trivia page on IMDb (although people on other sites have suggested an influence).

The movie, coincidentally, was set in Missouri, but filmed in Cali. Not sure how anyone would get those two states confused.

Ken Rex McElroy (June 1, 1934 – July 10, 1981) was an American criminal and convicted attempted murderer who resided in Skidmore, Missouri, United States. He was known as "the town bully", and his unsolved killing became the focus of international attention. Over the course of his life, McElroy was accused of dozens of felonies, including assault, child molestation, statutory rape, arson, animal cruelty, hog and cattle rustling, and burglary.

no wonder no one had anything to say in his defense.

Yep, that’s one similarity. Other similarities include

1) a drinking establishment being a key setting

2) a vicious attack on a convenience store owner by the bully

and

3) the town rallying behind a bouncer with a philosophy degree.

Ken was a huge a-hole to everyone in town and had a history of threatening and bullying people. The reason no one came forward despite so many witnesses is because the town was glad to get rid of him.

Lots of articles about this case out there.

Everything I've read suggests that no one was sad to see him die.

Keeping the details secret for 40 years is pretty badass. I guess they had enough.

Whilst the OT's reach is nearly unprecedented, I'll be suprised if there's a Skidmore resident on here.

We have 500 Navy SEALs on here but not one Skidmore resident born between 1960 and 1981?
