I am headed to the Knoxville area in late October to scout for some land. I need to be close enough to hospitals for my wife's work. Looking for a slower pace of life and better weather than Houston.
Any recommendations or feedback would be helpful.

Watch the flood prone land sales. I've heard it's bad out there.

What kind of hospital? If your wife is into specialized medicine, she's going to have more trouble finding work in smaller town hospitals. Land is a lot cheaper farther from the larger towns.

How much land? What's your budget? Are you trying to monetize this land by putting crops or cattle on it?

I like Wears Valley, but I imagine there are better deals for land in a scenic location in western PA and West Virginia. You start running into shitty winters when you get up to western PA though. I used to live in Pittsburgh....it's not as bad in the winter as Chicago was, but it's a lot to get used to if you are from Houston.

As a stranger, I’d advise you to stay away from Rocky Top, Tennessee.

Folks go up there and never come down.

The dude is asking for feedback...not answering all of your questions. You're like one of those moms on FB that can't stop.

You've come to the right place.

However, the OT needs information on what you intend to do with your land, what your requirements are, and pictures of your wife.

I like the Tri Cities area.
Ballad Health has good hospitals in Johnson City, Bristol, Holston Valley, and Abingdon (Virginia but close).

If you want small town with outdoor opportunities, Bristol/Abingdon is great. JC is a little bigger but still small, college, healthcare, mountain access.

What type of work in the hospital?

I'd look South of Knoxville.

Try Seymour, Wildwood, Walland, maybe even Townsend.

I don't get on the interstate unless I have to, but the traffic here is 10x better than it was in Baton Rouge.

They got some strange liquor laws up there, tough to find a bottle of ripple sometimes. Must plan ahead.

If he's coming from Houston, it's basically the same.

Yes
Farming is hard work. My dad grew up on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley. He said that experience as a kid motivated him to graduate college.

At least the traffic moves through at a steady pace.

I have considered the area but wanted to check out the Knoxville area first.

We checked out Maryville and Farragut a couple of months ago. I really liked those areas.
