Any podiatrists on here??
Know any good ones in Lafayette?

I get burning in the balls of my feet after running a few miles -- was fitted at a local running store for my shoes (On Cloud, Cloudsurfer) but I did try on and order today Brooks Glycerines. It typically stops burning if I walk or when I'm done running if I can push through it. Today is the first day that my feet hurt after taking my shoes/socks off and just "some" uncomfortable with walking.

I have a callous in the same spot on both feet -- but it's down from the second toe and not 3rd or 4th like I read is a neuroma symptom. I've tried thick socks (Balega), I've tried think socks (Feetures), I've tried body glide on my feet, I've tried different inserts with the metatarsal pad (Spenco) but it was more funny feeling and bothersome than helpful.

So any podiatrist recs in the Lafayette area? Can anyone rec anything else to try? PT eval crossed my mind since you can now self-refer.

If you have any Vagisil left over from your cavernous gash, rub some of that on your foot

You rang?

Calluses are a sign of increased pressure. You most likely have long 2nd metatarsals (bone that your 2nd toe connects to). This can predispose you to pain, callus formation, and capsulitis in the MPJ (joint between the toe and metatarsal).

I'm a big Spenco fan, and the metatarsal pad would help, but you probably have to work up to wearing them over a week or so. I would also suggest looking online for techniques for taping the toe in a neutral position which can help.

As far as podiatrists near Lafayette, I'd recommend Dr. David Maraist

You don’t want a podiatrist. You want a sports Med doc and the insoles he will prescribe. Problem solved.

Thanks for that and the info! Much appreciated. Stopping running would be an option but for my sanity and the safety of my family, it's not a good idea.

"Spenco fan, and the metatarsal pad would help, but you probably have to work up to wearing them over a week or so."

I bought the runner one and the general semi-rigid one. Are you supposed to "feel" these?? They're almost more aggravating than anything in the arch area. And how would you work up to wearing them??

Go get one of those cheese grater eggs they sell. BB&B sell them in their "As seen on TV aisle".
Or a pumice stone. Take a hot shower then use.
