ihometiger has summited Everest, Kilimanjaro, K2, Aconcagua, Elbrus, and even Vinson Massif. Dude is freaking ripped to the core. Surprised he has never posted any pics of his summits on here.

Summiting Everest isn't really what you would call a good time. It is literally you racing to the top and back down in order to beat your body's imminent death.

While also stopping overnight, sometimes longer, at different altitudes so you don’t accidentally kill yourself by not allowing your body time to adjust

My summit was in the 90s before the number of people got ridiculous and outside of guides and sherpa 80% of them have no business being there. I am old school in that I feel you should pay your dues before ticking of the most famous summit in the world. If your climbing CV consists of one line: I spent 13 hours straight on a Stairmaster one time maybe you should start with Ranier and work your way up. Not only will you feel safer on Everest but you will be safer and you may find out you are susceptible to altitude sickness and save yourself a LOT of money, disappointment and just maybe your life. One of the guys my wife works with has spent over $300k trying to summit but he is likely never to do it because his genetics say it ain't in the cards. The professional guides are not going to turn down his money.

Everest is primarily a suffer-fest. Weeks of no sleep, not wanting to eat when you need to eat twice what you normally do and forcing yourself to enjoy yak tea (harder for some than others). The fun is the camaraderie and the ~45 minutes on the summit and the supply of both grows shorter as the mountain becomes more commercial and crowded. Most everyone could summit Everest in today's world but I think there are a lot cooler cocktail party stories you can buy for ~100k if it isn't really your true dream.

Kudos to you. I know it's only basecamp, but I don't think I want the guy with my life in his hands to be working for ~$10/day.

Unfortunately I probably fall into this category. Altitude has always screwed with me. I can go to the mountains to ski or board, but I'm usually more worn out than others I'm with at the end of the day.

I've focused getting my rocks off driving fast and swimming with white sharks instead. But I do wish I could summit some of the big ones.

I have seen Everest from a tourist plane out of Kathmandu. I hope to go to base camp one day. A summit bid is probably a little beyond my time and means.

Except he’s not bullshitting us. I would love to have a beer or three with Obtuse1 talking about his mountaineering days. Fascinating stuff.
