I have no problem with snakes but owning a Burmese python seems problematic...

I have to go down damn near every aisle at pet smart. Dog food, cat food, bird seed, fish stuff, crickets for the frog, and meal worms for the gecko. The cashiers always ask “what kind of animals do you have?” I always reply, “I have a dog. All these other things just live at my house.”
The cat is super friendly and has his moments. The frog is cool and super easy. The gecko is very minimal effort but recently cost $400+ for the exotic vet to tell us that one of his penises fell off. The birds are always available to go to a good home.

they very much can be. they are a common impulse buy. its cool buying a snake that's a foot long at the pet store. Turns out it grows into a monster, and snake live a long time, 20+ years if well taken care of. Hence they get dumped a lot, and in places like Florida we see the results.

My friend has 2 poisonous frogs when we were in college. Not sure if I remember correctly, but I think 1 was red and another was bright yellow.

Grandparents had 6 peacocks. 2 of them lived for over 15 years.

You are correct, sir.
Subsequently I never owned a pet that might view me as a potential food source.

Had a pet pygmy rattlesnake a few years back.
Also had a few pythons and a boa in my formal dining room. The wife could barely contain her excitement.
Jungle jaguar carpet python
Jayapura green tree python
Zebra jungle carpet python
Diamond/Jungle carpet python cross
Hypo Brazilian rainbow boa
Sold the whole collection when I moved to Folsom a few years ago.
Also had small alligators several times over the years…veiled chameleons, a collared lizard, a mata-mata turtle….

Monitor lizard
Bearded dragons
Various tarantulas
Madagascar hissing roaches (those are great for Halloween)
Multiple snakes
Variety of turtles
Norwegian rats (less exotic I guess)
Birds before I got a real job
Lots of non-exotic (hamsters, gerbils, mice, dogs, cats, etc)

My parents had a pet raccoon when I was in college. It was awesome and thought it was a dog. She would sleep on top of their German Shepard at night.

All at once?

I would have ceased to be friends with this person. Of all things on the earth, I hate a mf’n frog more than anything……and poisonous at that? Nope. Next!

I had a black widow spider named Diana that I kept in a small aquarium out out in the detached garage.
No I never touched her but she was fun to watch when she fed.
That girl would kill anything of any size that you put in her cage.
Just for the fun of it.

No. Even my gracious parents had a limit. My siblings and I worked in a pet store when we were young and were often given or sold many animals and supplies.at cost. I remember at 1 time in our small house we had no less than 7 functioning aquariums, salt and fresh, the largest being 55 gallons. And we either took care of them or they died. No help from our parents. Good lesson for a kid, imo.
Many exotics I took on were a product of the time I spent out of town for work, since most ate infrequently.
