Any of you baws ever rented a Bobcat?

I have about 1/8 acre to clear of saplings and small cedars. After getting a few quotes that ranged from $1200-$2000, I’ve decided a better option may be to rent a Bobcat at $250 for 4 hours.
I don’t think my job would take more than 2-3 hours...especially if I knock out some trees with a chainsaw beforehand. The catch is; I’ve never driven one of these machines.
How much damage can I cause?

A lot if you don't know what you are doing. That said they are pretty easy to drive.

I confess I haven't done it myself. But the answer to the question "how much damage can I cause" is almost always a lot more than you think. Rent the machine and find a buddy with experience to help you out.

Drink heavily before hand, Bobcats are difficult to drive sober. People tend to overcorrect if they're not a bit tipsy. Also film it for lability reasons.

Where are you renting the Bobcat from?
Last time I rented one from AAA Rent All I rented it after 1:00 pm on Saturday and didn’t have to return it until 7:00 am Monday. You get to keep it all day Sunday for the 4 hour fee since they’re closed.
Something for you to look into.

You plan on using the bucket as a shovel?
You'll probably leave ruts everywhere from maneurving, but if you get a good feel for the bucket you'll be able to backfill the ruts by scraping with the bucket.
Just be careful of putting too much pressure on the bucket by digging, you don't want to blow the hydraulics.

It's tricky if you go on without knowing anything. But watch a video or two about the controls and you'll get it. Watch beforehand so you don't eat into your time.
Also like someone said. Some rental places don't consider a weekend day as an actual rental day.

I haven't rented one but I can operate one.
One of my favorite pieces of equipment. Get the one with rubber tracks, not wheels.
Left stick is move forward/reverse; left/right.
Right stick is raise/lower bucket; tilt bucket up/down.
Run in turtle at first then open her up into rabbit when you're ready.

It's litteraly two handles and two foot pedals. It's nothing a competent person can't figure out.

Yep, and easy to drive. My buddy owns Duhon Machinery and has a lot of them. They hold up well for small to medium sized projects.
