Now.... for this reason, I can support the movement

You still didn’t mention how this would even legally be able to happen. And July-June doesn’t mean much. They are already supposed to go back very early August and school usually ends last week of May. So that’s not adding much time unless you mean June 1-July 31 which would mean 2 straight years of school for these kids because they missed the last 2 months when shite is winding down and they are spending a week or more doing state testing. It doesn’t justify having kids in school from June 1 2020 until May 25th 2022.
And your department discussed this as their idea or something someone heard from someone they know? Or was JBE on the phone himself? Because I have been in phone conferences with the interim state superintendent.
And your “virtual through summer” comment makes no sense either. School is ending at the end of May. That has been made very clear. The only virtual anything this summer would possibly be summer school if the districts are still going to offer it. Summer school is virtual anyway, they just sit on the computer on campus instead of at home.

My kid starts kindergarten in the fall. There is absolutely no way I can continue to work & homeschool.

Everything that was discussed in my meeting was right after a meeting with the state department. We've been in direct contact with them since a ransomeware attack in Jan. I have names if you want
Chill out man, good Lord.
I don't know or care about the legal side, I'm just relaying things that were said to me today and action plans we have surrounding all 3 situations. This is obviously fluid and will continue to be because no one seems to know what the hell is going to happen.
I'm not making this shite up. Just bc you havent heard it yet. You will. My dept is creating action plans based on LDOE guidelines as of now, I don't care if you don't believe me bc you "havent heard anything and you are high up" or "this makes no sense" bc you applied your own logic to it.
I can tell you from an IT standpoint we are increasing staffing needs and also spending funds on infrastructure and devices earlier now prepping for this, and also there's talk about federal grants for internet access for kids that dont have it or in rural areas.
fact is no one knows anything that's going to happen going forward until we start opening things up and watching these COVID-19 numbers. so LDOE is scrambling creating contingency plans.
And the interm state SUP got a shite gig, she just did at the worst time, but I've seen the candidates to replace John, ,and none of them seem qualified to me. Louisiana education leaves a lot to be desired, and it starts at the top, just look at those candidates.
As for John, leaving in the middle of a Pandemic and schools closing the same week is a shitty move.

And do they plan on paying the teachers double through these summer months that they're being asked to teach?

This is the main holdup. Teachers are contracted for 9 months, spread over 12. To get this done you have to pay them. So TBH i don't see that happening.

These are just fear mongering contingency plans then. Trying to plan for every possible scenario. Let’s go ahead and throw in the option of no more traditional school ever. Virtual from now until the end of time. That’s just ridiculous.
The fact is that we will be back in school come August unless crazy shite happens. Sure, have a plan or two ready but don’t tout any of them as the one leading the pack. The one leading the pack is to open as scheduled. The state begins opening up in the next couple of weeks and we have 3 months to watch the numbers. Hopefully all goes well and back to campus in August.

FWIW I agree with you. I only said one was leading bc that was was repeated to me, and we are planning around it.
But the main point being, we flattened the curve only because of 2-3 months of shutting literally everything down and then it still took time. All early data (FL re-opening beaches, triple cases, etc) Does not look promising on putting everyone right back on top of each other. I would think by logic that schools would be among the last to officially open back up due to proximity and numbers.
My biggest fear and it's in my gut, is we open back up and are in the same exact, if not worse scenario come fall, and this whole process repeats itself.
That is what you want to try to avoid, no matter how it goes down.

Right...so take a school district that starts paying teachers in September which means that when school let's out for the summer they're guaranteed pay for June, July and August...so starting school in July through June means they're receiving double pay for August on top of the bump in pay for 8 additional week's for going through the following June. State is going to be crippled for money very soon and I don't see how this is possible.
Posted on 4/24/20 at 2:53 pm to LSUsmartass
FWIW i agree totally, I don't see it being logistically possible UNLESS you get more Fed money and that's possible.

I'd gladly go back first thing Monday morning, immuno-suppressed and all. Heck, I'd have gladly gone back weeks ago.

They should be back right now. 3 people under 17 have died Nationwide and they all had other conditions which probably killed them

Still don’t understand how it works huh? Don’t worry there’s time. There is no way in hell school opens in July. We will be lucky if it opens on time in August.

Exactly, I mean children dying is not the fear at all. But you'd have actually pay attention to know that.

Private Schools are a whole different issue. Am I supposed to dish over 20k for getting an email and zoom meeting once a week?
