Regular personal auto insurance would be within their rights to deny a claim resulting from you renting your car out. Any personal auto policy is going to have exclusions in it for things like that or carrying people or cargo for a fee.

i dont know how the renter part works, but i'm guessing they have to sign up for some special insurance.

Yeah, I hope you realize the cop is likely going to ask who's car it is when the driver's license and the registration/insurance info has different names and addresses on it. When the driver tells the cop he rented the car from a stranger via some smartphone app, that's gonna end up in the police report and the insurance company will see it. So your lie about letting a buddy borrow the car is going to get caught and possibly end up getting you in legal trouble for insurance fraud.

Yeah I’m terrible at driving a stick and would shred a high end clutch most likely

I can handle a 4-cyl wrangler...kind of.

A shite ton of damage can be done to a clutch in one day. Insane people hand over their key for a few hundred dollars.

Yep. And you know someone isn't paying to rent a high performance car for a day to drive it around like an old grandma. They're gonna get their money's worth and run it hard.

Get the Google keyboard. It's so much better than the regular one. I had that same problem with autocorrect on the regular one. I wanted to break my phone.

I've used it a few times when traveling CAD. The problem I always come back to are the mileage limits.

the one we rented had 300/mi limit and $1.20/mi afteward.

i definitely kept my eye on it. i noticed the mileage overage varies by car and owner.

Seems like a cool idea/good deal but I don't really see any case where I would want to rent a car just to drive around the same area I am already in.

I am guessing the mileage restrictions on these cars are pretty strict.

For $125, I'd go beat up on a new S5 for a day 200 miles/day are included with that particular rental.

I see no case why you'd rent your car through this app, but that's a different discussion.

For someone like me (and I imagine most other normal working adults) I can only see 2 reasons:

-Your car is out of commission and you have to have transportation and don't want to rent a car or uber multiple times daily, so you might be better off renting a camry or accord or something for like $20 a day from the app
-A really special occasion like an anniversary or something where you wanna "hit the town in style". Granted that's not really my scene anyway, but heck maybe for a big major event it'd be cool to do for a one time only deal.

Other than that I wouldn't ever use it, but it's a cool concept.

Shooters shoot!

I'm sure he knows its a long shot, but maybe an ATL rapper or famous athlete really wants one for a day and pays the price

Wonder how insurance works on this for the owners.

I read about one of these companies in Europe. The company essentially protects you.
