Any ButcherBox or other food delivery customers having problems with delivery? Fedex sucks

We've had ButcherBox for months and have generally like it. Good quality and convenient and always came quickly and frozen solid.

In the last few months Fedex has declined to the point where their delays have caused over $1000 of meat to have to be thrown out. Every package experiences multiple delays. The latest box was 57 degrees when it was delivered. To there credit ButcherBox is quick to offer replacement or refund but it makes me sick throwing so much good meat out.

Fedex hasn't been "good" in a long time but the decline is still shocking. I wonder how the decline in shippers is affecting online businesses especially those requiring on time delivery? I would think that the boxes are insured so someone is paying out and if just our delivers from one shipper is that much $$$ something will have to give.

The amount of food delivery complaints is too damn high.

The solution to all of these "problems" is to drive to the grocery store.

I tried ButcherBox a few years ago and stopped after about 6 months because of delivery issues. They were proud of their algorithm that was supposed to result in the dry ice lasting just long enough for the food to arrive but I don’t think they considered 100° heat in Texas.

Customer Service was always great and I walked away with several of their heavy, zippable shopping bags. My other complaint was that I included pork in my orders and every other month I got a huge Boston Butt that counted as about 1/2 of the servings in the order.

FedEx is fricking awful.

SO ordered a new guitar amp ($1,000+). FedEx was supposed to get a signature for it and they just dropped the shite on the porch. No signature, no ringing the doorbell.

Then he had to send it out to get it exchanged. They were supposed to pick it up. He let them know they’d have to come up the house and ring the bell for us to sit out as we weren’t going to sit it on the porch for hours. They drove by and were like “Hey didn’t see the package”. So we’re just taking it to the FedEx store tomorrow.

The amount of meat some TD posters / families consume is surprising to me.

A $1000 of spoilage reference to one meat order…

Steaks in particular seem out of reach for most HH budgets these days. Those grocery bills must be astronomical if you want steaks with any quality or frequency.

I'm not a fatty anymore

I would just go to the store if it were convenient but it can be hard to find good quality grass fed/ grass finished beef locally. Walmart while convenient doesn't have the best quality grass fed beef. It will taste fine sometimes and inedible others, no consistency at all. I also don't want to have to get a whole/half a cow at a time from a local farmer.

And not to go off on a tangent but yes grass fed has a better nutritional profile over grain fed/finished beef. Also less glyphosate since that shite is sprayed all over the "grains" the cows are fed.

Delivery service is going to shite lately. The drivers are over worked and loaders and unloaders are absolutely awful. People don’t realize how close delivery service is to falling out.

I have never used Butcherbox because of the price, but given that Butcherbox sells grass-fed/grass-finished and local stores in the NOLA metro area don't stock very much if any at all (besides ground beef), I can see the appeal of turning to Butcherbox.

Best solution I have been able to find so far is to order a quarter cow and drive 4 hr round trip to New Iberia to Gonsoulin Land & Cattle and store it in a chest freezer

I requested extra dry ice but it doesn't help when the package sits at a hub for an extra day and then on the vehicle for another 2 before they actually deliver it. The last spoiled order had 4 dry ice bags and it didn't help.

It's a shame because they have a good product and it use to arrive so cold I had to wear gloves to unpack it. They are at the mercy of the shippers. If things keep declining it will hurt them and other online sellers. Even Amazon has struggled with delivery lately.

This baffles me as well. Is it so hard to knock a few times or push the doorbell?

I would think that at some point these delivery companies will start refusing to deliver items like this. Not sure what the response would be from places like ButcherBox.

They are under extreme pressure to deliver fast and they know every single trick and technique to save time and blame you.

This is the cost for several failed orders. They had to ship a replacement twice on one.

We've moved away from processed crap and generally try to eat quality foods. We are somewhere around keto to ketovore. The cost isn't out of line because we don't buy all of the crap and you stay satiated and don't eat out or snack all of the time. The cost effectiveness was a pleasant surprise since we were just looking to be healthy.

I think you are spot on. With the move to online/delivery it could really end up badly for some companies.

With FedEx I almost always get a "package delivered" email. Then I check everywhere outside and can't find it, and 20 minutes later the truck comes and drops it off. It's obvious they're cutting corners bigly

This is it exactly. Walmart close to me stocks grass fed and at a good price but it will taste great one time and the next the dog won't touch it.

ButcherBox is good and consistent but I can only imagine how many orders are getting screwed up especially in the south with the heat.
