Local scrap yard here won’t buy them anymore from individuals you have to have a commercial account. Noticed that sign on the office window the other day when I hauled some old pipe off the farm

Had mine jacked from me last summer. I turned on my car and it sounded like it was going to blow up. Apparently teams of guys in Dallas would raid garages at night and they sell them to people who have smoldering setups in the middle of the ocean. Pretty nuts.

Seems like you could make some easy legal money by buying up clunker vehicles for under 1,000 dollars with the Cats still intact, cut them off and sell them, then just take the vehicle and sell it to the scrap metal yard to recoup the cost to buy it
A lot of these illicit schemes just sound harder than working a legit job to me.

My work truck was slowly being stolen earlier this year
first they stole the back tail lights
then they came back and stole the new ones 2 weeks later
then 2 weeks late they came back and stole the converter
I've been taking my work truck home now instead of keeping it at the office

I've heard of this happening in larger cities for some time now.
First i had heard of this was this weekend when I was in Houston. Seems to be a ever growing problem.

Up until recently you could go to the junk yards and get them. Before the yards wised up and pulled them first.

Yeah, someone stole mine a few years ago. It was a much older, but popular car so I called around to some junkyards about getting a replacement to weld on. They said that's the first thing they do with clunkers that are brought in - cut out the cats.
They also sell "eggs" online which are fake converters with just the shell and none of the good stuff. You can have a mexican shop weld them onto your exhaust system so it will pass a visual inspection.
I ended up just getting a new car.

That may be something manufacturers or deals may need to start adding or least be an option. The stolen cat issue is not going away. I bet even if they catch some guys, they let them go with a slap on the wrist. It's spreading all over, bad problem in Houston!

Did they find him/she? Going from theft to kidnapping is a pretty big leap.

Man I got my whole vehicle taken from me when I walked into the shell on Sherwood and i12. I’m losing my mind. Navy blue 2005 Volvo XC90 has a green New Orleans city brake tag and New Orleans 200th red white and blue license plate. If anyone sees it in BR with some tape on the back bumper call the BRPD, they’re just telling me they have cameras watching the license plate if it hits they’ll send a squad car out to tail it but we’ve been into this for a week and I’m not feeling any better about it my cousin said a black guys got it on Sherwood and has seen it by the Burger King on n barrels ferry I think it’s some scum bag that lives off Blvd de province. Thank you OT if you can help. I have less love for my lifelong hometown today.

Campbell told police he then tied the man to the ball hitch of the F-150. Campbell said he dragged the man into a nearby field and left him.

Witnesses say that they watched as Campbell’s white F-150 dragged an “object” out of a parking lot. That object, of course, was Peltomaa.
Yes, the guy should be arrested for that.
However, if on the jury I would not convict.
