Any astrophysicists or astrospace engineers here?
Posted by The Silverback

I am currently an accountant working in public accounting and I am miserable. I was curious if anyone here works in either field by chance and could provide some input. Considering changing careers. Thanks.

Thousands are employed by public accounting firms. Nothing to brag about unless you’re a manager or partner, which neither was mentioned above.

Just because accounting and astrophysics starts with an A doesn’t mean you can just switch to that career

Should be plenty of overlap there

Apply for the LSU Accounting PhD program and become a college professor. A lot easier than astrophysics.

Would be nice to be a professor. I just don’t enjoy accounting in any way. I do like finance though (the markets, debt and equity securities, etc.)

Seems a bit more realistic than becoming an astrophysicist

Strannix and Hurricane Mike are astrophysicists

My son is. He loves what he does, but engineering school is very difficult and Astro/aero E is the “hard” engineering school.

In many circles, I am considered a self taught expert bottle rocket launcher. What do you need to know.

you’re an accountant and you want to be an astrophysicist. I’m a contractor and I want to be a neurosurgeon

Honest question... how skrong is your math game? Clearly as an accountant it's not awful, but is it that strong of a suit? And i feel someone pointed out, those fields always need a budget cruncher, so you can get an insight before going balls deep in the field. Unless it's wildly illegal, I'll never tell someone not to pursue something they're passionate about.

I say go for it!
But this reads like you smoked a big fatty after a hard day with no xmas bonus and conjured up this idea of becoming an astrophysicist out of nowhere.
