Any accountants have experience working with FBI/CIA?

I'm a CPA, been working at a mid-size CPA firm for the three years since I graduated. We don't specialize in audit or tax, we do both. 95% of our audits are governmental audits.
I'm starting to look around at other careers, and a forensic accountant for the CIA/FBI intrigues me. My question, for those in the know, would be- what do they look for resume wise? I'm considering getting my CFE to boost my resume. Do they mainly hire from Big 4 or more experienced accountants? Also, what is the work like?
One of my biggest fears is that while we do a handful of for profit company audits, the vast majority of my audit experience is NFP and governmental- and that that will limit my options as I look elsewhere

You are being tracked. Put your computer in the oven, burn all of your documents.

I do federal work myself but it's more from the ERP standpoint, I can't help you with specifics about the CFE life.
But I do know there's plenty of work available and it pays well. I see no problem with this as a career move if it's what you want to do. You might need to move to the DC area at some point but that isn't a bad thing.

Have you ever tried an office pop?

Supposedly the guy before me in Internal Audit at a corporation went FBI.
Just look at application process.
Frankly probably a lot of rift in NFP so I wouldn't let that hols you back

My friend is a forensic accountant for the FBI. She loves it. Gets to bust shady businesses all the time

It isn't like the movies if that is what you are thinking. My friend was with FBI in white collar for 15 years before he left to go back into the private sector. He never took the handcuffs he was issued out of the box they came in and kept his gun in his briefcase. As arrest consisted of calling the guys lawyer to come surrender his client at the courthouse.
That being said, FBI has shifted focus largely to counter terrorism and Intel so accountants may or may not be high on their hire list. Pushing the forensic and funds tracking angle could help though.

No need to go through all that hassle, just wipe it with a clothe. That's worked in the past just fine.

Accounting is one of the tracks they hire from, the others being Attorney, Engineering, Foreign Language, and a general type category (i.e. LE experience). You need 3 years of work experience for all except I believe the attorney track allows for two years experience.
I am sure the CPA will be looked upon favorably. I am not to sure about the CFE (I have this). It will not hurt just not sure how much it will help.

You can't have smoke pot, ever. Seriously go look up the rules for being hired it's pretty crazy
When I was in school a little over 5 years ago they did a presentation for accounting so they definitely still hire the field.
Give it a shot, I don't think you will regret it if you can get in.

I have a buddy that does this type of work for the CIA. Unfortunately, he can't go into details at all so I don't have much help to give other than encouragement.

My mom is retired CIA. I was a summer only employee there for two years while I was in school. It's a damned shame they cut that program.
It caused quite a stir in the little town in Ohio that I grew up in when they came around to do my background check. It was the best job I ever had as far as resume building goes. I got every position I applied for over 15 years after school by keeping that job on my resume.

My wife worked for a three letter for a few years in forensics. She was/is CPA, cfe, aml etc... Big 4 forensics now. Got a security clearance while with the Feds that certainly has paid dividends in her career. Leaving big 4 next week!
