The flight. A combination of motion sickness and nerves.

That’s what happens when you’re taught to be dependent and not independent

The height of the covid insanity was a little more than 5 years ago so one would have been finishing up high school while the other was starting high school. So many people sounded the alarm that forcing people to have less interactions with other humans was a bad idea for people. Especially kids that are learning how to socialize in school.
It isnt the entire reason for the downturn in young people's mental health, but it definitely contributed.

People won't like this, but you're right. Not teaching independence is a form of neglect. That's why so many people are high strung nowadays. They have the resilience of a wet tissue paper.

Forgot to mention they've had the 19yr old on Zoloft. She stopped using it and apparently her anxiety came back. I told them to find other types of help, exercise, activities, something besides popping pills.

For people saying that joining the military is good for them - I disagree. The military will take someone that fragile and turn them into a gibbering mess. People need a strong base to build upon. Confidence doesn't spring forth from weakness. A person needs to have developed confidence from failing and succeeding over years of trials and tribulations.

Do they still have “ Outward Bound”?

Pretending like the fear mongering, guilt tripping, zoom classing, isolation didn't frick up a subset of kids is crazy.
It is overblown. It was an inconvenience. People have suffered much worse in their lives. What about people who were kids in Europe during WWI or WWII? They saw multiple family members die and had their homes destroyed, but somehow, they went on to have normal lives.

He has neither.
I think it comes from his dad dying when he was 8yr old.

Agreed 100%, they don’t have to agree, just look around, kids live with their parents into and beyond their 30s, on the dole, rent free insurance paid, not the way it works

People smell blood and they convince you that they can fix you for a small fee, of course. Then it drags on and on. They keep finding reasons for you to come back and pay them more money. It becomes an addiction, just like a drug.

Not knowing the situation, it may be time for tough love. Throw them in the deep end and let them swim.
But… If it’s real anxiety, it’s a terrifying condition. They need a psychiatrist. They know exactly what they’re going through and can prescribe meds if necessary.

A 24-year-old who is in pharmacy school?
That person is an adult, not a child.
It takes 3 hours to fly from Dallas to Los Angeles. Suck it up and get on the plane instead of calling Mommy and Daddy.

But the VA will give them a check for life over the service induced PTSD after only one enlistment.

They need psychiatric help with meds.

That situation needs professional help like counseling. Get them help asap. Clinical Social worker or Clinical Psychologist is probably the best choice. Good luck.

Yeah coddling them may seem to help short term but it’s actually hurting their growth.
