Just from watching the news antifa is the least of st Tammanys problems. They ever figure out how a woman died in a fire with a bullet hole in her head?

One important distinction that may or may not matter - a "major terrorist organization" is not real. Calling someone that doesn't grant any force under the law. It's made up.
What the admin is trying to imply here is that they designated Antifa an FTO, or Foreign Terrorist Organization.. They can't actually declare Antifa as one because Foreign Terrorist Organizations must be, well, foreign. When you think of all those crazy post-9/11 constitution-fricking anti-terror statutes, you're thinking of FTOs. There is no comparable domestic statute.
Specifically, The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), Section 219 allows the Secretary of State to declare someone an FTO, which puts them on a list which has a large number of sweeping legal consequences.
What happens when you're declared an FTO? Well...
The USA PATRIOT Act under 18 U.S.C. §§ 2339A & 2339B defines penalities for giving "material support" to an FTO. This is the single most widely applied anti-terror statute in US history. Initially, this was used to give harsh criminal sentences to people who like, sent money to al-Qaeda or whatever. However, after Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, "material support" has been redefined to include support which is not material, such as non-violent speech.
The government can hurt people and organizations affiliated with FTOs in a myriad of other ways, too:
They can be targeted for warrantless surveillance under FISA
They can be classified as military combatants and detained without trial indefinitely
See José Padilla,) a US citizen jailed without trial after being accused of aiding al-Qaeda
Their funds can be frozen or seized without notice or recourse
So, I don't want to be like "nothing ever happens." Clearly something is happening here. But this doesn't mean Trump can legally black bag people on the street for listening to Chapo or whatever.

I’m not saying it was perfect by any means but Reddit was better before 2016. Lots of the subs were more unique. Politics was there but not forced everywhere to the same crazy extent it is now. Probably less bots/astroturfing too

quote:uh NORAID (Northern Irish Aid) was an American organization that was labeled a terrorist organization after the Patriot Act.
They can't actually declare Antifa as one because Foreign Terrorist Organizations must be, well, foreign.
The organization disbanded because it was an unfair designation. It was a charity organization that helped the families of unjustly jailed people in Northern Ireland.
So if NORAID could be labeled a FTO, Antifa should definitely be.

Good info. What if ANTIFA is actually a current CCP operation?
Oh, and…wrong board (maybe…it could also be a PSA for some posters).
