It really is so ironic that people fight so hard for no gun change when the alternative is less stuff happens less. It's literally only happening more and more with no change.

Gun violence in America has plummeted in last 40 years.

Please educate yourself on per capita measurement

Context matters
If the roughly 40,000 gun deaths in 2017
60% are suicide
15% are justified law enforcement shootings.
Then of the remaining numbers roughly 80% of those gun deaths happen in our inner cities which are riddled w/ gang violence fuled by narco economy that thrives due to the failed leadership in those communities.
All rough numbers but you get the idea.

10 years ago this would have been a huge story. Today it's just another shooting rampage.
Maybe 15 or so, now.

Like a .270 or .308 right? Because an AR15 is a .223.
caliber was the wrong word to use... didn't mean that literally...
basically, firearms that are repeating action, semi-automatic, have magazines, etc. those should be more restricted, as to avoid ending up in the hands of someone who cannot prove to be responsible or accountable with the firearm...
single shot rifles, unless the person is sniping, is not gonna kill as many as what i mentioned above...
look, no one is trying to take anyone's guns, we aren't banning any guns, we aren't saying having guns is bad... nothing like that... we just want to put in more checks and balances to make damn sure those that do have firearms will be responsible with and for them, and those that subvert the law by buying/selling illegally will be severely punished swiftly... what is so wrong with that?

This covers almost every pistol made today

cool, so those would be included then...
you can still have one, but we just need SOME kind of way to ensure our firearms aren't ending up in the hands of someone it shouldn't...

I don't know if this is the case with mass shootings but a large portion of inner city murders/crimes are committed with stolen firearms.
I don't know how we can prevent theft but I'd be willing to make the penalty for possession of a stolen firearm
much harsher. Automatic 10 years in prison sounds good to me.

Chris Rock, yes, Chris Rock,
While he is a comedian and the shite he says is funny, he makes more sense than most people. Especially when it comes to politics.
He says Republicans and conservatives are fricking idiots, democrats and liberals are fricking idiots.. Because there is no way people are conservative or liberal about every issue.
He says "crime I am conservative. Prostitution I am liberal"
But the point he makes, makes sense.

stolen firearms.
if we had a registry, it would be the responsibility of the registeredl owner to ensure proper notification if a firearm goes missing/stolen... have a police report, so if the stolen firearm is used in a crime, it doesn't come back on you (otherwise, who's to say there wasn't a cash sale for the firearm, you know?)
quote:
don't know how we can prevent theft
you can't, but you can ensure that responsibility and accountability is maintained... like i said, the registered owner is accountable for it's safety, and if it is stolen, then they are responsible for reporting the firearm as stolen... if not, it's on you...

make the penalty for possession of a stolen firearm a much harsher
see, now you are starting to see it like i do...

i'd say 20 to life, depending on what kind of firearm, and how many, etc..

And the funny thing about those numbers is that 20 years after abortion became legal the numbers started going down (in other words, unwanted kids are likely to go down the wrong path in life. Legalizing abortion stopped more unwanted kids from being born. And since 20 yrs old is the average age people start committing crimes, they based the study on 20 yrs after abortion became legal).

as a pro gun person, what's the harm in registering your guns with a serial number, or something like that, so that it's at least accounted for? please know that i'm legitimately asking for your opinion, because i just want to hear y'all side of it because i'm not familiar with y'all opinion of it...
Look at New Zealand, they are openly going to peoples work to confiscate guns.
Then look at Venezuela, the people desparately need to overtgrow their govenment, but they have no weapons. The people were literally run over in the street by their own government.
Also, you and you alone are responsible for your own safety. Its not being scared or crazy to carry a means of protecting your life.

You mean a 4473 when bought from a dealer? You know a background check.
There are already laws against straw purchases. So buying a gun for someone not allowed to have one os already illegal.
Private sales is a get around, but do you know what? Its already illegal to sell a gun to someone thats not allpwed to own them.
Why can't we just try enforcing all the laws on the books already?

Ok, so you want to change laws when you dont even enforce the current laws on the books?
