Private sales is a get around, but do you know what? Its already illegal to sell a gun to someone thats not allpwed to own them.
I don't think that's on the seller but rather the buyer. I have no way to know if you are allowed to purchase a firearm.

It is, buy as a decent human you know its ok to tell a shady dude to f off.
Sure you might be wrong and they may be legal and the clean cut dude might be the one.
But be responsible, tell them to meet you at a police station for the sale. Its pretty easy to be responsible. Even go through a dealer if you are unsure.

I also love the "God given right." First of all, separation of church and state right? Also how is owning a gun a fundamental human right? If so, why aren't they given to us for free?
Oh my.

Is it really so mind boggling to add another AMENDMENT?
Good. So we agree any gun control legislation should be a Constitutional Amendment.
Good luck with your endeavor.

I’m a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment. We can’t let a few rampages a year that result in the tens of casualties, remove the counter balance to tyranny.
Having said that, we’re a culture that is very immature. We need grown up solutions to grown up problems. This one is simple.
Commit a crime with a gun, the death penalty is automatically on the table. Robbery. Domestic violence. Assault. Felony possession. Threatening with a firearm. All of them.
Commit a crime with a gun. Die. Publicly.

They why wouldn’t they just go ahead and murder the person and have one less witness?

What about knives? They're responsible for more deaths than "assault" rifles.

and most people, if the sum of money is very high, or they are desperate, don't really care if the person they are selling to can or cannot own a gun... all they know is they are selling their gun for a sum of money....
so, even private sales, IMO, should require at least a notary, bill of sale, an some indication that the person tried to establish whether the buyer is a felon or not, and like i said, if there was a registry, there would be a subsequent record of ownership of said firearm... put the responsibility of the gun on the person that owns it at the time...

they are openly going to peoples work to confiscate guns.
and that is wrong, and against what i'm proposing... perhaps you missed that in my previous posts...

but they have no weapons
again, that, to me, is wrong.... you should be able to own a firearm, IMO...
quote:
you and you alone are responsible for your own safety
then what are police for? your sentiment is an overly simplistic view, as you cannot account for every variable at all times... you just can't... there is a reason for police, laws, etc...

it's not that crazy, but imagine a world where you really don't have to...

Because all the illegal gun owners in the hood will be registering their firearms and properly documenting their sales.
This is at the heart of what you fail to comprehend...all your laws, all your ideas about registration, will do exactly jack and shite to keep people who shouldn't have firearms from having them.
Only law abiding citizens are affected by laws.

again, failure to register or properly document results in more severe punishment... i've already covered this, explicitly for this very reason, actually

so, your solution is... what exactly?

just curious, but why is registering a gun you own such a bad thing? i'm not really understanding why this is considered such a heinous thing to some of you....

You mean like all the other more severe penalties that are not enforced? Or the fact the people I'm talking about don't give two fricks about the law in the first place?
Again, laws only affect those who abide by the law.

Focus on the problem, not the tool. Let's see how does that go...."I've already covered this."

dunno, the laws we have now seem to work, somewhat, when properly enforced....
but as far as weeding out who should and shouldn't, that would be what background checks, mental evaluations, etc. would be for... laws are more for enforcing bad behavior and encouraging good behavior, as it pertains to firearms, not really about determining who can own a gun....

My point exactly.

that would be what background checks, mental evaluations, etc. would be for.
And when the doctor decides you aren't mentally competent to own a firearm because of your political views?
And again, the demographic I'm talking about doesn't get their firearms legally in the first place.
One more time...laws only apply to those who are law abiding.
Posted on 6/1/19 at 5:58 pm to Centinel

that are not enforced?
i've already covered this too... perhaps you didn't see where i said that they need to actually be enforced, and in a more timely manner, at that...
quote:
Or the fact the people I'm talking about don't give two fricks about the law in the first place?
well, eventually these people will end up in jail, in my proposal, for a very, very long time... severe penalties that are actually carried out, relatively quickly, do dissuade future proponents of that action... that's why sharia law seems to work
quote:
Focus on the problem, not the tool
you've said this, but not actually explained it... so here's your chance... what would you do to remedy what's going on, to actually make it make sense and appease both sides.... remember, too far in either direction and NO ONE is going to be for it... i'm trying to do as much as i can to be even keel as to not inflame the pro-gun people, while also trying to make the anti-gun people happy with the progress, in my hypothetical... so what's your proposal? we're all ears...

It opens up the possibility of confiscation. As the laws are written now, the government does not really know who owns what because private sales/transfers are legal.
I own a number of firearms that my grandfather gave me before he died. There's no mechanism in place to track ownership of those and I'd prefer it to stay that way.

your political views
do you really see everything with a political slant? look, i can't speak for every doctor or clinician, but speaking just for me, i don't care what or who you vote for, if you are my patient, i'm going to do my BEST because that's what you deserve, no matter what... and i'm wiling to bet 99% of us out there feel the exact same way...
and fine, you are entitled to a 2nd opinion, since it's the 2nd amendment we are talking about, right?
quote:
the demographic I'm talking about doesn't get their firearms legally in the first place
again, over time, this demographic will be substantially wiped out, in my hypothetical... severe punishment, being enforced, in real time...

therein lies part of the problem of what's going on...
quote:to be completely honest, a large majority of us that support gun control do NOT want confiscation AT ALL... why some of y'all are so scared about this, i have no idea, honestly.... is that really something that people think is/could happen?? for one, there are way too many guns to confiscate... there are over 120 guns per 100 people in the US... that's a lot of fricking guns bro! no way they could confiscate all that, and like i said a very large majority of gun control supporters don't want that anyway...
It opens up the possibility of confiscation.

You honestly think this will happen? You are arguing about what should be. I'm telling how it actually is.
Just look at the recent wave of decriminalization or defelonization in large urban centers for theft.
quote:
to actually make it make sense and appease both sides
Why should I appease both sides? One side has been comprising for almost 100 years with ZERO compromise from the other. Each compromise results in one side calling for more compromise.
One side will not be happy until all guns are banned and confiscation is enacted. It's not about rights. It's not about safety. It's about power.
quote:
what would you do to remedy what's going on
Address the problem, not the tool I've said this four or five times now.
quote:
and appease both sides.
One side has compromised multiple times. The other wants more compromise each time a compromise is reached.
