Ours were just cakes seven and five years ago. Simpler times.
For the record, I think gender reveal parties are dumb but the wife wanted it. It was not worth the argument with a pregnant woman

It's just another party. Think about birthday parties for instance. No one really cares that you managed to live another year on this rock floating around in space.
It's the fun of getting together for any reason really, gender reveal, birthday, etc. No one cares why.
