Detectives were told Bert dropped his wife and children off at a downtown Baton Rouge hotel and then left to park his car. However, he did not return to the hotel. Police later found his vehicle in a downtown hotel parking garage along with his wallet and cell phone, McKneely said. He was last seen by his family at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 22.
This could be an instance of terrible reporting (which would not be surprising), but there aren't many hotels in downtown BR to begin with. You have the Hampton Inn, Hilton, Indigo, Watermark and Belle of Baton Rouge. I could be wrong, but I don't believe the first 4 on that list have their own dedicated parking garages. Perhaps they contact with the city/state to use some of the public garages/state office garages, but I'm not sure.
The only one that does have its own garage is the Belle.

Something is very strange about this. The wife couldn’t drive? Others are going to drive all the way from Florida to pick them up? How sick was he? He was able to go park the car alone. Family didn’t even stay with him to make sure he didn’t pass out in the garage. I’m thinking we are being fed a story to cover for whatever the truth is. Maybe they were meeting her for drugs with these Florida people?
Yeah, none of the wife’s story is true

There’s a parking garage that’s adjacent to BRPD’s 5th precinct, a stones throw away from the Watermark.

The St. George organizers are jerking off at this news.

If you are a baw in your 40s, stay away from DTBR.
I'm 40 and walked over a mile around downtown yesterday. Bunch of wimps out here afraid of 3rd Street.

My goodness yall have one fricked up city.
From an outsiders perspective, if I'm feeling like I need to stop and get a hotel for whatever reason on a road trip, I'm pulling in to one just off the interstate. Especially if it's late at night, because the only reason to venture in to a city would be for restaurants or maybe a few beers or something. At 1am all I'm worried about is sleep. Especially if I'm feeling sick.
Furthermore can his wife not drive? If he's so bad off that relatives need to haul arse from Florida, then go to the nearest hospital. That shite doesn't add up at all.

A decision was made for Bert and his family to stop in Baton Rouge for the night so that relatives from Florida could travel to Baton Rouge to assist Bert and his family with the remaining drive home
Probably should have workshopped this story a few times before telling the police

Another fishy story
If it was a robbery or carjacking attempt they would have stole the car or at least the wallet
Sounds like this guy wanted to disappear
If you were driving and had to stop somewhere who randomly goes to a downtown hotel
Most people find a hotel closer to interstate or more convenient

With all the cameras around Hotels and parking garages surely there is a lot of footage to go through.
So they were on a family trip returning to Florida and were to stay in a Downtown / probably expensive Hotel.
Wonder what he does or did for a living.

Wife and I are staying at the watermark in downtown Baton Rouge this weekend. Don’t plan on going out searching for hookers and cocaine so I should be fine right?
If you leave your hotel room, it's gonna find you. RIP to you good sir.

This guy was up to something. Who passes all the hotels at the Lobdell exit and then decides to exit Downtown Baton Rouge to find a hotel?
What if he wanted quick, direct access to the river in order to commit suicide?
Perhaps that was his plan all along and the “feeling sick” was a ruse so he could abruptly stop the trip back to Florida. Checks them safely into a hotel. Goes to park the car. Leaves his wallet and phone like many individuals who commit suicide. Walks to the levee and takes his life.
