Another “misleading” number from our governor - 200,000 tests needed

Because now, many hospitals are testing patients who are going in for surgical procedures that were delayed - testing the patient before surgery to mitigate risk to staff and providers. There will be an upswing in test volume. Maybe not that number, but a factor more of tests.

You can give 200,000 tests tomorrow and 100,000 can acquire the virus while waiting on test results. Tests don’t mean shite

I mean, the fact that we had 10,300 tests on one day does not necessarily mean we have enough kits to do that every day. My understanding is that this is about available kits, not lab capacity. Or am I mistaken?

This is certainly a legitimate question. I understand why we would want more test kits, generally speaking. I don’t understand why 200,000 is some sort of prerequisite for opening things back up. So if 2% of the population gets tested in May, it’s a no-go, but if 4% get tested we’re all good?

The testing urgency is to capture as many asymptomatic patients as possible to make the numbers go up to make OMB look foolish for opening up the economy.

When Trump had the virtual meeting with all those CEOs recently about reopening almost every single one cited rampant testing as the #1 achievable short term improvement to our response.
They almost all said that without extremely ramped up testing there would be issues restoring widespread confidence of both workers and consumers as well as preventing more disruptive clusters of cases, especially in factories/bigger workplaces.
Not saying I don't think the rampant testing has a strong potential to end up about like airport security but that's just what all the genius business leaders demanded.

My father in law was told to go to a lab for a test before his outpatient heart procedure scheduled for this Friday. When he got there with orders for the test the facility told him he did not qualify as someone who needed a test. He has no symptoms and doesn’t know of an exposure. So no pre op covid test for him. Procedure still on. So far.
