Granted, US News and World Report probably takes bribes, but UCLA is listed as their number one public above such schools as UC Berkeley, UVA, Michigan, and UNC Chapel Hill.

This isn’t Chico State here.

1) California is a big state with as much opportunity as any in America.

2) People in other states have a lot of respect for both.

They're both top 25 in USNews rankings. While not Ivies, they're not "meh" by any stretch of the imagination.

They aren't meh, but they definitely aren't "elite"

Would you consider the #23 ranked football school in the country "elite"

Well nobody really "cares" if you went to Emory or the University of Chicago either but that doesn't change the fact that they are among the better schools in the country.

That's #23 out of the teams that play FCS football.

We're talking #23 out of the 5,300 colleges and universities in the US. So yes, that's pretty damn elite.

He said elite, there are only a handful of schools in america that will make people sit up and go oh shite. It's fine, I went to Texas, its in the same tier of top public universities, but I know no one is going "Oh shite, we got a Texas grad on our hands"

23 out of how many schools?

FBS is only about 118 teams so that means you are in the top 20%

There are 400 or more 4 year universities in the US so we’re talking the top 5-6% or so.

Which is by default the same as #23 of any school with a football program

yea in that case so would #100, but no one is calling them elite.

We're not talking about #100 though. We're talking about #23.

What we call it is irrelevant in any case. It's a good school, and a lot of people want to be a part of it.

They aren’t paying for or concerned with the kid’s education. They are paying for their ego and bragging rights. And hoping the girls marry well!

Well that's because people are stupid. Anyone that matters knows those schools are about as good as it gets (pre admissions scams).

I don't know if she knew the price but when Muffy was told that she was joining the national champion college soccer team, she had to have known something was up.

Arguing over the definition of elite is fine. They're relatively elite to the vast majority of schools. Only a handful of schools are objectively better. If that's not elite to you, I'll buy it, but like I said earlier, USC and UCLA are great schools to anyone that matters. Texas and Michigan are in a similar vein.

Indeed.

I fricking love that this was the spokesperson's response.

The schools don't want this completely burned to the ground because they stash rich kids like this, too, when the parents are smart enough to do their business directly through the school.
