Going 80 the entire way across (impossible to do with any traffic at all) saves 6 minutes vs going 60mph the whole way (much more achievable)

In my experience, the real difference is much closer to zero. It's damn yard to average 80 over that whole span other than really weird hours.

Eta: I suppose the better fuel economy at 80mph offsets the horrible danger a little bit?

I know a great way to keep this shite from happening. The trucks actually go 55 in the right lane and the cars go 60 in the left.

You get downvoted but you are correct. If people would actually just drive 65 on the damn bridge, don't tailgate, and weave in and out, this shite wouldn't happen. But everyone has to ride the bumper in front of them and weave in and out. Saving 3 minutes by doing this causes all of these problems.

My life improved much for the better when I started living it 1mph under the speed limit. No more road rage. No more stress. A little worse gas mileage I guess. Getting there 3 minutes earlier ain't worth being pissed off at everyone else the whole time trying to do it.

That’s because it’s backed up all the way to Metairie according to my app.

Take an interstate where people have become accustomed to driving at ~80 mph leading up to a 25 mile section of it where the speed limit drops to 60 mph and limits trucks to the right lane.

You’re going too fast. This isn’t a Grand Prix on I-10.

Let’s see you get hit at 80 with little to no shoulder.

If I drove a truck, I would avoid the basin bridge like the plague. I would take 190 or the scenic route through Morgan City on 90 if headed to NOLA or the River Parishes.

Unbelievable that this has nothing to do with it and a truck is on fire.

I drive a lot of hwy miles and the amount of shitty arse vehicles that have no reason going 80 or being on an interstate at all is scary

Yeah, the people weaving in and out of traffic is bad, but if everyone were generally doing just a few miles over the speed limit, like 65 in a 60, it wouldn’t be so bad. There would be a couple of assholes at 80 mph, but not that many.

What really cranks it up is when a couple cars and a couple trucks in the right lane are going 55 mph, and then grandma decides to pull into the left lane and “pass” them doing 55 1/2 mph. Then everybody stacks up 10 miles behind the rolling roadblock.

That’s when people start losing their minds sitting behind grandma trying to pass a half dozen other vehicles and it takes her half the basin bridge. That’s when people really start weaving back and forth, cutting 6 inches in front of 18 wheelers, trying to jump right in front of each other at high speed. So instead of a couple assholes who just have lead feet, you get a couple dozen pissed-off assholes cutting and weaving in tight traffic.

Then grandma just stays in the left lane and everyone starts ripping around her, trying to pass her before the next rolling roadblock.

Somebody in one of those rolling roadblocks gets a little nervous because somebody is trying to inch past them or because someone cut in front of them, they tap on their brakes, and then you got a 6 car pile up.
