Lump sum.

If you lived in Louisiana and won would it not be better to pack your shite up and move to say Tennessee before you claimed the check? Tennessee has no income tax.

Lump is the ONLY correct answer.

Louisiana: Five percent state tax
Annuity: - $1,616,667 per year (avg. net pay per year: $22,956,666; after 30 payments: $688,699,980)
Lump sum: - $27,430,000 (net payout: $389,506,000)
With this much money I guess it really doesn't matter
Am i missing something? How did your math get down to 27,430,000

Everyone that said they'd take the lump sum the other day didn't have the wherewithal to actually generate better returns than the annuity did.

Lump sum simply for the matter that if you die they could cease the payments. At least make sure the entity taking the annuity is going to be around for the life of the payout.

I'm about 99% certain it's a 30-year period certain annuity payout.

I used to think that if you were a young person (30's or less) take the annuity and older take the lump. Now though, I do not have confidence that the system will remain solvent long-term for any number of possible reasons so take the lump regardless.

False

winner dies before collecting?
If a winner dies before receiving all annual payments, Mega Millions will continue to pay the annual payments, as scheduled, to the winner's designated beneficiary or to the winner's estate.

State tax depends on where you bought the ticket.
