Went to Ground Zero for the first time earlier this summer (1st trip to NYC in over 20 years).

It was troubling to see the ease and carelessness of the people that were there. It was just another "stop." Another meaningless historical landmark like the countless others they give little to no notice to as they travel down a highway or through a national park.

No doubt, somewhere in those people was a lone person or small group of people, quietly reflecting the on horror of that day and the spouse, parent, child that was lost.

Islam was, and is, a pestilence. There is no accommodation or entreaty that will change that, or its final goal - complete subjugation of the "infidels."

frick Islam.

18 years later it still makes me just as angry seeing and hearing the footage of that day. Such a mind fog, stuck in time kind of day and really that whole week or two afterwards. Then the reality that America was going to be at war real soon sunk in.

Man I wish we could go back to what it was like the day before. Such a blissful ignorance.

I'd just like to mention the children who were killed that day who never had a chance at life.

3 on Flight 175 - ages 2, 3, and 4.

5 on Flight 77 - ages 3, 4, and 11 (3 victims)

It was unnerving watching the coverage of President Bush entering the bunker at Offutt AFB. Scary times.

Very well thought out and put together thread. It's unfortunate one has to be made bc of what transpired that day, but thank you for taking the time to put it together.

September 11th should be a national holiday. Not because we need another day off or anything, but because this day should be focused on remembrance.

That said, I can understand the argument that we want the day to seem mostly normal so that those who supported the attacks never get the satisfaction of having changed how we live our lives.

Thank you for all of this. We seemed to unite/ re-unite as a nation on 9/12 but what has transpired since to accommodate those who brought this great nation to its knees is sickening and disturbing. They continue to win as we spend useless money on meaningless TSA procedures and chasing ghosts overseas instead of making meaningful change on the soil where these incidents happened.

Imagine if everybody had iPhones back then. The amount of footage we would have.

They don't have to. There are "Americans" that are voluntarily assisting them.

Also want to make sure we remember W absolutely painting the fricking corner with the first pitch when the country began to heal and get back living our lives.

That video gives me chills. Best first pitch of all time.
