Of course it is a luxury. But we are living in one of tbe most luxuriant times in history. One day freely available meat for cheap will be a distant memory. So enjoy the good times while they last and stop worrying about a few birds in an industrialized slaughterhouse.

My uncle used to work for Sara Lee and toured the kill floor one time. They were told the workers down there were only exposed to killing for a certain portion of the day and they had to go to counseling. After his tour, he hasn't eaten any of their products again. FYI...hotdogs are green until they die them pink.

I do have respect for animals. But the reality of industrialized slaughter is that it's ugly. You do anything on that massive a scale and it becomes simply going through the motions. No different than killing bugs. They are processing. That's it.
These same people wringing their hands over industrial chicken production...do you think they'd have the wherewithal to raise their own, fatten it up, bring it to the chopping block and whack its head off with an axe? Then watch it flop around for a little while and pluck it?
Because that's the organic way. But if you had people killing millions of chickens like that a day they'd have a shite fit too.

There was once a time not very long ago where over a quarter of our population worked in agriculture and where farms were not consolidated into a handful of industrial operations.
It can still be done. The notion that our current system is necessary is a complete fallacy, evident in how much food gets thrown away in this country.

I don't disgree. You'd see a sharp rise in prices though.
One of the main issues I have is that meat should be a luxury. Not a drastic luxury, but you shouldn't be seeing poor people on the government tit push around baskets full of it while working families are struggling to get by. There's just something messed up about that.

The number of farmers has dropped, however the majority of our food still comes from family owned farms.
What has consolidated into a few companies is the packing side of meat production.
The current system is necessary to produce enough food for those large urban areas. The notion that people can produce their own food from there own property is true to an extent, but how many chicago, new york city, or even NBR for that matter residents have the option or knowledge to raise their own food?
The farms that try to service those areas still produce a much more expensive product that the masses can't access.

Watched the video. The dark clips are pretty skeptical. I have my doubts if that is legit what is really happening there. If so, those people would be fired with the quickness. I've been in a large Tyson plant and there are just way too many people around for this kind of shite to be going on all the time
