These Louisiana small town politicians are Grow At Any Costs.
The problem is the locals let the New Orleans people move in and take over.
Traffic has gotten bad and their are too many people in town but thankfully the locals in Ponchatoula haven't allowed that to happen and it is doubtful if they will.

Sounds like Baton Rouge where it's "let's throw another housing development here . . . rezone for commercial right next to it . . . another development in this drainage area here . . ."
The same shite is happening here in Ascension and Livingston Parish.
Baton Rouge fricked itself by letting small town guys run things for decades and history is repeating itself here.

Friend's got Fed money after hurricane, mysterious fire the day before demolition equals more money, spends way too much money on building, decor, no parking because "plans" didn't pan out with neighbors property. Opens up, outrageous prices on food, alcohol, doomed for failure. Goes bankrupt, owner tries to buy back from bank, deal gets squashed and bank maintains ownership. That's it!

Looks like the boat museum...

I moved to the Northshore 27 years ago and I still love it. No crime, great restaurants, good public schools, good golf courses, great playgrounds, no flooding. Comparing the N shore to Metairie or NO is joke.

Where on 22 are they proposing the RaceTrac?
Posted on 8/11/17 at 8:44 pm to TheCurmudgeon
Heard a rumor today that someone in madisonville is trying to shut down Madisonville PD and let it be policed by the sheriffs office like abita springs.
Kind of like what Eddie Price tried to do in mandeville and we see how that worked out.

The Bank has not yet sold the property to Race Trac, as RT is waiting to see if Zoning & Planning can be bamboozled into letting them disregard the City requirements-cut trees, etc. Z&P will vote on 8/22. Then I understand the City Council must confirm. The ONLY argument is to ask Z & P and your Councilman to stick to their guns and uphold the City regulations. Send your email requesting this to: lspranley@cityofmandeville.com. She routes citizen concerns to the Committee. Also District 1 Councilman David Ellis has been supportive and can be contacted at: dellis@cityofmandeville.com

Where's the proposed RaceTrac location on 22? Is it on the south side of the highway, west of the car wash and across from Fairview-Riverside?

Between the bank and shopping strip mall next to dollar general. It has a lot of Oak trees on the property. I can't imagine anyone wanting to cut those down. It's unimaginable.

If only we could get NO folks to stay in No and BR folks to stay in BR.

In the case of the St. Anthony's Garden retirement facility on Dove Park...the Parish actually PAID THEM for worthless land! And now we receive more traffic and worse flooding than ever before.
But I bet you use that new road with the roundabout instead of that shite they call dove park.

I can imagine it. In fact I can almost guarantee it.

The other extreme is the growth management limits in places like Seattle. Very few variances granted to areas zoned urban, rural, agriculture and forestry. Nearly 2/3 of the county is essentially off limits to commercial and high density development. Protects open space, viable agriculture and forestry economies and a great quality of life. Downside is crazy housing prices...a price well worth paying for most people.

Naw that's where Mandinas is now. Further up the road. This is by Megumi next to Fifth District Bank.

My sister lives near Seattle in a town about the size of Mandeville. Lots of parks, green spaces, excellent city services, great public schools, no sprawl, and reasonable traffic. The quality of life would not be believed by people accustomed to this area. As you say, the taxes are high, but you get what you pay for.
