I doubt that guy had mental issues.

In high school, he was a good receiver and great DB. I think HUDL had him listed as running a 4.31, laser timed. He was recruited by Jim Tressel and JoePa.
He chose Academics instead, becoming a brilliant economist who, while never hired for public view, was a frequent contributor to policy in the Obama administration. He was famous in his circles for cutting through the numerical "red tape" and seeing the effects that any decision may have on micro, and macro, in a way not seen in economists his age.
He worked from home so nobody was aware of his appearance, or double life. Even with his early exit he still wins.
He will be missed.
