SO she can do things like volunteer at her kid's sporting events? Sounds like she is doing exactly what you would ask of an uneducated (though you have no idea) parent who wants better for their kid.

Every kid does not have an equal chance, this is true. To make fun and judge a parent who is volunteering at her kid's football game is beyond racist. Its unchristian if you're christian, and just being a bad person if you're not.

Life lesson: don't make fun of people (regardless of color) who are doing their best to participate in their children's lives.

OP, you're attitude is as big of a problem as some of the problems you are complaining about. You're kids may grow up to be educated and possibly wealthy. I hope that they have some other role model to teach them not to be assholes who look down on those less fortunate than them.

Won't make much of a difference. The chances of two people with low IQ and low capacity for learning producing a child with high IQ and a normal or high capacity for learning are near zero. It's genetics.

Start holding parents accountable. Start forming federal or state run programs for after school programs for education. If the parents have problems with the curriculum, they should be required to go also. If their kids continue to fail, you start fining parents. If they don't have the money, take it out of their welfare checks. Hit them where it hurts to make them open their eyes. It's not their money to begin with anyhow.

Something HAS to be done with the education system, because ultimately, IMO, will be the undoing with this country. Not race wars or politicians or gun rights or whatever else the hot topic is today.

A pretty good reason to call out the OP is that he is a racist (either that or he really hates it when people struggle to make change).

As for value to the community, all we really know about this person is that they struggle to make change while talking with their friend and volunteering. I for one value people who volunteer.

I also value many things above the ability to make change. Perhaps she sings beautifully? Perhaps she is a great cook and cooks meals for people in the community who struggle to cook for themselves? Perhaps she sucks at math, but holds down a job that doesn't require math.

I for one have watched people from all over the Baton Rogue community of all education levels and races step up and do their best to help each other.

One thing this flood should have taught people is that they are closer to poverty than they ever thought possible. The very people who look down on those that receive benefits are now begging for government benefits to repair their homes. I for one think they should get them. Not because they are smarter or "hard working", but because communities are supposed to take care of each other when help is needed.

There is more to life than money and intelligence. I have learned some of the most valuable lessons of my life from hard working people with no education.

To look down on a volunteer at a pee wee football game for using a calculator to make change...

Either you're failing at making a joke, a racist, or things are going so badly in your life the only way you can look at yourself in the mirror is to look down on others. I hope it is not the latter because I wouldn't wish that darkness on anyone.
