For the first time since Bobby Fischer
He is 25 year old Fabiano Caruana, born in Miami and grew up in New York.

Cool. Who usually wins this type competition?

Perhaps, but it's worth noting that the professional chess world has plenty of hot Eastern European women. He's probably doing just fine in that department.
Granted, they often blow up into babushkas later, but that is a different topic.

Is it against Carlsen? If so, Caruana probably doesn't have a chance. Dude's a robot

Sort of an American. There was that 10 years where he claimed Italian citizenship.
Seriously though, glad he made it. I got caught up with some stuff the last week and stopped paying attention. Was kind of pulling for Kramnik or Mamedyarov.

Does he prefer getting zugzwanged or having his bishop fianchettoed?

Usually the defending champion does, and that person happens to be Magnus Carlsen from Norway. He is 27 and is regarded as being possibly the best player ever, including Fischer and Kasparov.
But many think Caruana might have a shot, Carlsen got a Norwegian girlfriend recently and has been losing his edge a bit lately.

He prefers mating with the queen of course.

It's been over 10 years since a Russian has won. But yeah, Russians have historically won a lot.

It is vs. Carlsen and a couple of years ago you would have been right. Not so sure now.

His parents are Italian, the family moved back to Italy when he was a kid and he played there for awhile.
But he was born here and moved back here as an adult, that's good enough for me.

Right. Everything changed when he put that pussy on the pedestal.
