The amount of homework my kids have is completely ridiculous. My 3rd grade has 2 hours a night minimum.

When kids have homework they have to get help from their parents, if their parents are dumb shits... then that means, any communication with them about academics will set the tone for the kid. If the parents have a dumb shite attitude then the kid will develop the same attitude. Homework probably makes people more stupid.

Gets in the way of soccer every night. Trying to study after a 2 hr practice does not work. Last year was hell. Luckily this year, 4th grade, we only have practice and training 3 nights a week. Weekends are still shot though.

I was just listening to something on wwl today. A teacher told all the parents she was doing away with homework. I'll say this. Math was always my bugaboo. My mom would help me with it for hours on end each night. I think it was some of the hardest nights for both of us. I know one thing my kids better be smart because I can't go through that shite again.

My kindergarten son has homework.

It's just tracing letters and circling them in words. It's stuff I've already taught him at home in the last2 years. Hell, we do simple addition in the car.

His only took 20 minutes today, 1.5 hrs is a lot.

"Hey boss, I'm heading out early to spend time with my kids."

Sounds like a brilliant plan, let me know how it goes.

My neighbors daughter just started Kindergarten and he said from day 1 she has had an unreal amount of homework each night. Complex math problems and shite.

That's ridiculous. But what kind of homework can it be for a 1st grader? Practicing writing their name or coloring or some shite?

I wish....
She had to cut out flash cards of her spelling words and also her addition and subtraction tables (this will be each monday).
We had to time her twice on how fast she could do the flash cards.
Tonight she had to write her 10 spelling words three times each but do consonants in one color and vowels in another. Yesterday it was where each word had to be done 3 times but in the same color.
She had to go over her spelling sentences three times and we had to time her on that as well.
She has to practice writing two sentences using 3 of her 10 spelling words bc they will be written on her test Fri.
She has to be timed reading words on her word chart which has 50 words on it.

Besides cutting the flash cards on Monday, all of the other things are done every day.

Your neighbor thinks 1st grade math is complex... he must be brilliant.

you sound like you haven't done first grade homework recently to be honest. It's true, the methods they are teaching is some crazy shite

I'd question your neighbors intellect if he described his daughters math homework as complex.

ETA: Piling on there. I love common core, although my son doesn't have to do it.

My son was in first grade last year and his amount of homework was ridiculous. The bad thing is that it wa almost entirely busy work. I understand that they need practice, but they don't need two hours of meaningless work.

Dunno.

Just finished my first graders reader as well as her math...

What a fricking joke. The stories in the reader make no sense. They ask questions at the end that were not in the fricking story.

The math book has no examples. Terrible instructions. It's pretty damn shitty.

It's like no one proofread anything. A co.oany showed up and sold textbooks for a couple million and said see your stupid asses later. Good luck frickers.

What a giant waste of taxes... Not to mention the kids suffering. They'll shitcan this on a few years and find another shite curriculum I guess. Lord help us

This is public. I understand that St Tammany has really good schools but to me it just seems like more than what a first grader should have to do every night.

I understand kids will have homework. Hell she had homework in pre-k and K each night, but nothing like this amount.

I dont know anything about common core, I just remember everyone saying the kids would learn 2+2=5 and shite like that.

Ive got 2 more years. Whatever it is I just know Im not trying to stay up all night doing homework. I nearly lose my shite every night just trying to get her to eat dinner
