The Gold card also extends all manufacturers warranties for an additional year.
I used it years ago to buy a new TV when my house was struck by lightning and fried my TV.

I’ve honestly been an Amex Platinum holder for about 8 years now and will no longer hold the card for two reasons: the fees and the cute waitresses don’t act impressed anymore.

Worth or value is different for everyone. I use many of the credits naturally, but I have the card to get away from crowds when traveling. I hope people drop the card so lounges are accessible and I am willing to pay for that. I am going to leave it if they don't fix lounge access before I worry about what is a $74 monthly fee that I come out close to even on.

Guess what?
In a few years it’s gonna go to $995. Then after that $1295 then eventually it’ll be $1995 or $2995 per year.
Hang on.

While AmEx does have credit cards in the normal sense, people typically think of their charge cars (Green, Gold, Platinum) which you literally cannot carry a balance. You have to pay your statement off in full every month

If I can't fake-impress 35 year-old twice-divorced cocktail waitresses then I'm out
Pfffft!

None of them are meant to carry balances but 99% of customers do because they can't control their spending. Which is what the card companies want.
Sorta. Company doesn’t care if you carry a balance nor if you downgrade to a lower tiered card with a lower fee.
They just want you to use their card as a primary source of payment. They make bank on the interchange fees.

Annual Fees have really jumped the shark. Trying to offset it by turning credit cards into coupon books with coupons most people won't use is a really shitty trend for the consumer

Gold allows 'pay over time' (balance carry over) options.

I got rid of mine because AMEX was woke.

Yep, and frankly it's going to work on me. I'll be downgrading my CSR before my anniversary date.
Do my unused points go with me if I do this?
